"Nothing's free on Nal Hutta."
―AnIthorianbartender, to Anakin Skywalker[9]

Nal Hutta, also known simply asHutta, was ahot, swampyplanet located deep withinHutt Space ofthe galaxy that was thehomeworld of theHuttspecies andheadquarters of theGrand Hutt Council. Nal Hutta was a major haven for both the government—alignedHutt Clan and other criminal elements of thegalaxy, located far from galactic authorities. Its terrain was largely bloated swamps and bogs coated in greasy rains, all of which were greatly exacerbated by theDrengir crisis during theHigh Republic Era.

Description[]

"On this slime pool, everybody's an outlaw."
Cad Bane, on Nal Hutta[9]

Nal Hutta, known also as just Hutta[14] was a ringedplanet nestled in the depths ofHutt Space[15] and was located in theOuter Rim Territories[1] andThe Slice.[3] It was a mist-coveredswamp world[15] with ahot, humid[7] and fetidclimate maintained by thick swampyrain that fell almost perpetually.[15] The world was a hotbed of life[7] and its environment was fairly representative of thesentientHuttspecies that inhabited the world.[15] The influence of the Hutts made the world an important location.[7] The planet's surface was covered with numerous bogs[8] with what little solid land there was claimed by the Hutts and used to support their homes.[15]

The Hutts built only a handful ofspaceports on the surface of Nal Hutta in order to connect their towns, settlements, and palaces, as the planet received few visitors due to most business with offworlders being conducted on the planet's largestmoon,Nar Shaddaa. The foremost of these spaceports was the planet'scapitalcity,Bilbousa, a sprawling mess covered in arching roots that spread out from looming bulbous pods. Within sight of the city was thePalace ofGardulla Besadii the Elder, one of the largest buildings on Nal Hutta, which served as the occasional headquarters of theGrand Hutt Council, the ruling body that both worked and led theHutt Clan. Under the Hutt's control, the planet shared a reputation with Nar Shaddaa for being polluted and dangerous, but played a leading role in the galaxy's shadow economy.[15]

History[]

Transformed into a swamp[]

The Hutt Clan was based off Nal Hutta.[6] Once, Nal Hutta was a planet full of teeming cities. The world waschanged during theDrengir crisis, with aDrengir infestation drastically expanding reach of the planet'sjungles,[16] a climatic shift with effects that would remain foryears to come.[6] Luckily, the new environment[16] was one the Hutts were already particularly well-suited for.[8]

Clone Wars[]

AfterfreeingZiro the Hutt fromprison onCoruscant, thebounty hunterCad Bane brought the fugitive Hutt to the Grand Hutt Council on Nal Hutta. Ziro refused to divulge the location ofhis secretholodiary and wasimprisoned by the Hutt Council. However, Ziro managed to escape with the help of the singerSy Snootles. TheJedi MastersObi-Wan Kenobi andQuinlan Vos traveled to Nal Hutta to apprehend Ziro. However, Ziro and Snootles escaped offworld with the help of Ziro'sMama.[6]

While on an undercover mission to saveSupreme ChancellorPalpatine fromSeparatistassassins, Kenobi, who was disguised as thebounty hunterRako Hardeen, and the fugitives Bane andMoralo Eval crash-landed on the swamps of Nal Hutta. The trio traveled toBilbousa Bazaar where they obtained astarship to travel offworld. Despite being pursued by theJedi KnightAnakin Skywalker andPadawanAhsoka Tano, "Hardeen" and the bounty hunters managed to escape offworld toOrondia.[9]

During the later stage of theClone Wars, the formerSith apprenticeMaul, his brotherSavage Opress, and theShadow Collectivevisited Nal Hutta in an attempt to force the Hutt Council to join theirShadow Collective. The Hutts rejected their demands and a gun battle broke out between the Shadow Collective and various bounty hunters hired by the Hutts. The Hutt Council escaped but Maul's party managed to captureOruba, who revealed thatJabba Desilijic Tiure was onTatooine. Afterkilling Oruba, the Shadow Collectivedeparted for Tatooine.[17]

Imperial era[]

During theImperial Era, between theyears3 and4 ABY,[18] theCrimson DawnflagshipVermillion traveled to Nal Hutta and landed in theBilbousa Spaceport. Meanwhile, the bounty hunterT'onga and hercrew also arrived in Bilbousa toraid theVermillion and rescue thechildCadeliah who had been takenprisoner and was behind held on the flagship.[19]

New Republic era[]

A pair of Hutt siblings known asThe Twins were based on Nal Hutta[14] by9 ABY.[20]DaimyoBoba Fett, with whom the Twins would go on to compete with for control ofJabba's criminal empire on Tatooine, considered their lifestyle on Hutta to be debaucherous.[14] By28 ABY, Nal Hutta was still considered a crime haven by many within theNew Republic.[21]

Behind the scenes[]

"George Lucas had some very specific ideas about Nal Hutta. He gave us some really rough sketches. There was to be this very swampy, these big pustual orbs sticking up where they would build their palaces."
―Dave Filoni[22]

Nal Hutta was first depicted in the episodeHunt for Ziro ofStar Wars: The Clone Wars, based on George Lucas' ideas and sketches of how he envisioned the world.[22]
