TheMon Calamari Knights,[1] also known as theMon Cal Knights, was aMon Cala-based military organization that was active by the time of theClone Wars. It was made up ofMon Calamari,[2] asentientspecies that shared Mon Cala with theQuarren.[3] During the Clone Wars, a group of Quarren allied themselves with theConfederacy of Independent Systems,[2] an alliance ofsolar systems that seceded from theGalactic Republic.[4] The Mon Cal Knights fought against the Confederacy-aligned Quarren on their sharedhomeworld.Artoz, who was a member of the Mon Cal Knights at the time, later became astarship systems engineer.[2]

The Mon Cal Knights originated in thefifth chapter ofStar Wars: Clone Wars, an animated series directed and produced byGenndy Tartakovsky. In that episode, the Knights managed tofight off theQuarren Isolation League with the help of theJedi MasterKit Fisto.[5] However, that series is part of theStar Wars Legends continuity, formerly known as the "Expanded Universe," and is therefore not officialcanon.[6] The Mon Cal Knights were partially integrated into canon inNovember2014, with the release ofJames Luceno's novelTarkin.[2]
