Megalight per hour

Megalight per hour, sometimes referred to asMegalights per hour, or simply asmegalight (MGLT ormglt), was a unit used to measure the relative[source?]sublight speed ofstarships inrealspace[1] (as opposed tohyperspace), although the velocities were still close enough to the speed of light to cause relativistic effects.[2]
For instance, particularstarfighters such as theRZ-1 A-wing interceptor andTIE/D Defender Elite could achieve a sublight speed of 120 megalight per hour, which was discernibly faster than the sublight speed reached by certainshuttles akin to theDelta-class T-3c shuttle orTIE Command Shuttle, which was 90 megalight per hour.[1][3]
The spacecraft with the fastest known realspace speed was theTIE vendetta space superiority fighter (nicknamed the TIE silencer), an advancedFirst OrderTIE starfighter produced bySienar-Jaemus Fleet Systems, which could attain a maximum realspace speed of 155 MGLT.[3][1]

Industrial Light & Magic's spaceship speed and maneuverability chart created forStar Wars: Episode VIReturn of the Jedi
The megalight (MGLT) unit originated within a reference chart, drawn by individuals atIndustrial Light & Magic, during the production ofStar Wars: Episode VIReturn of the Jedi, contrasting the propulsive capabilities of prominent starships which appeared in the film relative to one another.[44] Thecanonical reference booksStar Wars Super Graphic: A Visual Guide to a Galaxy Far, Far Away andthe second edition ofStar Wars Encyclopedia of Starfighters and Other Vehicles have markedly different "MGLT" values attributed to the same starships[7][1] as those depicted in the original production diagram, such as theTIE/IN interceptor andRZ-1 A-wing interceptor.[44]
