- "Fenris swears she'll find Han's route and claim it for her own, except the Maw is full of black holes, and she isn't quite sure which two Han went between."
- ―Midnight writes about Fenris in his book[4]
TheMaw Cluster,[2] also known simply asthe Maw,[4] was a cluster of churning[2]black holes[4] that could confoundnavigation computers[2] located in theAkkadese Maelstrom.[4] The largest[2] and the worst[5] of these, wasThe Maw, and it was given wide berth by sensible travelers.[2]
Theories suggested that the source ofspice withinKessel was the turbulent area of space that surrounds theplanet. Over eons, debris from churning singularities of the Maw Cluster and surrounding Akkadese Maelstrom accumulated into the planetary mass.[2]
AfterHan Solo and his colleagues made theKessel Run in a record twelveparsecs on theYT-1300 light freighter known as theMillennium Falcon,Astrid Fenris' speculated that Solo had flown thefreighter between two black holes in the Maw Cluster, and therefore the credit for the run should go to thegamblerLando Calrissian, who owned the ship at thetime and so had been responsible for any modifications that allowed it to survive the pull of the black holes. After she declared her intent to find Solo's route and claim it for her own, patrons began asking her if she had tested her theory yet each time she visited the Lodge. As Fenris was unable to determine which of the many black holes in the Maw Solo had supposedly used, she began avoiding the topic and would quickly become interested in any other subject when asked about it.[4]
