"Mandalorian vambraces? Where did you get these?"
"Try them on. Grappling line, paralyzing darts, repulsor. All designed to combat the abilities of the Jedi."
―Sabine Wren and Fenn Rau[1]

Mandalorian vambraces were forearm brace-like devices designed to combat theForce abilities of aJedi, but were also utilized for many other combative purposes. Vambraces could be equipped with a large array of differentweapons, such asblasters, darts, flamethrowers, rockets, vibroblades, andwhipcords. TheMandalorians developed these vambraces alongsidetheirarmor as a reaction to the Jedi's abilities encountered during theMandalorian-Jedi War.

Description[]

Mandalorianvambraces were combat gear designed to counteract theForce abilities of aJedi.[10] As such, they were equipped with variousweapons that also proved useful against other foes. What was specifically on each pair of vambraces varied depending on the owner's fighting style. Liketheirarmor, a Mandalorian's vambraces were made ofbeskar, making them impervious tolightsaber attacks. A few Mandalorians had touchscreen displays on their vambraces, allowing them to control systems and weapons.[2]

Boba Fett's vambraces

Jango andBoba Fett's vambraces were equipped with a variety of different offensive and defensive capabilities. His right vambrace had alaser targeting system. Beneath that, was a tiny launcher fortracking devices. Right below that was adart launcher, capable of firingtranquilizer, stun, shock, or explosive darts. On the other side of his right vambrace, was awhipcord launcher, which could fire a 25-meter-longfibercord whip. On his left vambrace, was aMicro-Rocket Armor-Mounting; which could accommodate a wide variety ofmicro-rockets, includingMM9 concussionmissiles fromKelvarek Consolidated Arms. Off to the side was aZX miniature flame projector fromCzerka Arms, that when combined with a reinforced fuel line connected to hisZ-6 jetpack, could provide a steady supply of fuel for up to three minutes. Further down on the left vambrace, was aholoprojector, communications system, and aDur-24 wrist laser fromBlasTech Industries.[11] However, while his vambraces contained multi-purpose buttons and switches, they did not contain a touchscreen display. Fett also integrated achain code into his armor's vambraces.[12]

Din Djarin's vambraces

Din Djarin owned vambraces that were forged bythe Armorer. The vambraces supplemented Djarin's other weapons and fighting techniques. As such, many features were substituted for a more complementary style. His left vambrace was equipped withwhistling birds, allowing him to launch twelve miniature explosive projectiles at once.[8] Djarin had a whipcord launcher in both of his vambraces, allowing him to fire slightly less durable but significantly longer lariats. Both vambraces were also equipped with aflamethrower as well as a fuel tank, enabling him to operate without the need of his jetpack. Djarin could control his jetpack with his right vambrace, even if it was not on him.[18][19]

Sabine Wren's vambraces were a gift fromProtector of Concord Dawn,Fenn Rau.[1] They were similar to Fett's, yet the left vambrace contained a shield projector above the laser targeting system and motion detectors below theparalyzing darts andrepulsor. The right vambrace was equipped with an electroshock device,[20] a flamethrower, and agrappling line. Both of Wren's vambraces contained touchscreen displays, providing her with an alternate means of monitoring and controlling weapons, sensors, communications systems, and theheads-up display inside her helmet.[2]

History[]

Jango wrist blades

Jango Fett's vambraces

Following the Mandalorians'war against the Jedi, they developed vambraces to work in tandem with their armor to combat the Jedi's abilities.[21]Bounty hunters, such as the famed Mandalorian mercenary andfoundling[22]Jango Fett,[23] and later[24] his son Boba, used them in their line of work.[25]

Death Watch leaderPre Vizsla[5] and his followers, such as Bo-Katan Kryze, used vambraces during Death Watch'sexile fromMandalore. Vizsla used vambraces when hefought JediPadawanAhsoka Tano,[4] forces of theHutt Clan,[26] and when he dueled the renegadeSith LordMaul for control of theShadow Collective.[5]

During her training with theDarksaber in2 BBY, Sabine Wren used her vambraces in combat withJedi KnightKanan Jarrus and his PadawanEzra Bridger. After learning to fight with the vambraces and Darksaber combined, she was able to defeat both Force users.[1] The post-Great Purge Mandalorian group known asthe Tribe also used vambraces.[18] In9 ABY, the Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin utilized vambraces in battlingMoffGideon'sImperial remnant on multiple occasions.[8][27][28]

In35 ABY,[29] the bounty hunterCarib Diss wore a Mandalorian vambrace equipped with whistling birds while residing onKijimi.[30]

Behind the scenes[]

"Mandalorians are prideful, brilliant warriors in their own right. They're also technologically savvy and advanced. This is how they've fought the Jedi. So again this kind of plays into the opening with Tarre Vizsla in the images of them fighting. So you're seeing here almost a small re-enactment of a Jedi-Mandalorian war and how a Mandalorian would get the upper hand, surprising Jedi with technology and then cutting them down, finishing them off. So they'd get this advantage."
―Dave Filoni[31]

The Mandalorian vambrace first appeared with Boba Fett inStar Wars: Episode VThe Empire Strikes Back.[24] They were first identified as such in the animated TV seriesStar Wars Rebels'season three episodeTrials of the Darksaber.[1]
