A MDS-440 datapad first appeared in the filmStar Wars: Episode VIIIThe Last Jedi,^[2] which was released onDecember 15,2017.^[3] The prop was not named in the film,^[2] but received identification inStar Wars: The Last Jedi: The Visual Dictionary, a reference book written byPablo Hidalgo^[1] and released in conjunction with the film.^[4]
