- "We conquered whole star systems. We had an empire. When cities heard our armies were coming, populations fled before a shot was fired. Now we cling to a pathetic sector of dirtball planets, we scramble for the crumbs that the cowardlyaruetiise throw when they want us to fight for them, and they use us as a breeding stock for their clone armies. Thearuetiise will always treat us like an animal species to be used for their convenience until we stand up for ourselves again."
- ―Lorka Gedyc[2]
Lorka Gedyc was aMandalorianwarrior ofClan Gedyc, and a member of the radical Mandalorian splinter group known as theDeath Watch. By the time of theGalactic Empire'sfoundation in19 BBY, Gedyc had become the organization's most recentleader as it continued to exist in hiding, moving to ally Death Watch with the Empire.
Biography[]
Following the end of theClone Wars and therise of theGalactic Empire in theyear19 BBY, Gedyc had become theleader of theDeath Watch.[2] Gedyc thought highly of theMandalorians of ages past, who hadconqueredstar systems and forged an empire[2] that spanned across vast swaths ofthe galaxy. The state of the greatly diminishedMandalore sector following the defeat ofMandalore the Ultimate[3] was abhorrent to Gedyc, who considered Mandalorian holdings inthe era to be little more than an assortment of "dirtball"worlds, and felt that the Mandalorians' penchant formercenary andbounty hunting work was tantamount to scrambling for crumbs.[2]
Seeing this as an opportunity to restore the glory the Death Watch leader believed the Mandalorians had lost, Gedyc allied Death Watch with the Galactic Empire, and the Death Watch soldiersDred Priest andIsabet Reau assisted the Imperials in establishing theirgarrison[2] on the Mandalorianhomeworld ofMandalore,[3] just outside the planetarycapital city ofKeldabe, in the failed adventure park[2] known as the "City of Bone."[3] Priest thought highly of Gedyc and the Death Watch leader's plans, and like Gedyc, saw the Empire as an opportunity to re-establish the Mandalorians' former power.[2]
