Plot summary[]
Guests of the Wookiees[]
TheJedi InitiatesKai Brightstar,Lys Solay andNubs accompanyJedi MastersZia Zaldor Zanna andYoda during a visit to theWookiee homeworld ofKashyyyk onLife Day. The three younglings are excited to be on Kashyyyk for Life Day. Solay practicesShyriiwook with a young Wookieefemale namedJohgeshakka, whom she introduces to her friends.
They accompany Johgeshakka to a banquet hosted byChiefWhitaggikk to celebrate Life Day. Master Zanna thanks Whitaggikk for inviting them. Yoda adds that it is an honor to share this holiday with their Wookiee friends. Speaking in Shyriiwook, Whitaggikk says that the most important part of Life Day is being with family and friends. Zanna translates while Yoda reminds them about food. ForLife Day dinner, the Wookiees serve a chicken-like dish which Brightstar and Nubs find filling. Brightstar remarks this is the best Life Day they have celebrated.
Befriending Jo[]
Translating for Jo, Solay says that there is more to Life Day than food and briefs her friends about theLighting Ceremony. Every year, Wookiees gather around aLife Tree and hang glowing orbs calledLife Day Orbs around it. She says that it is a chance for people to gather and remember deceased family and friends. Today is special because Jo is old enough to hang her family's Life Day Orb during the Lighting Ceremony for that night. Every Wookiee family has one orb passed down the generations.
Master Zanna ushers everyone for the Lighting Ceremony on the other side of the Wookiee village. Jo allows Solay to hold her Life Day Orb. She shows it to her fellow younglings but Brightstar bumps into her, causing her to drop the orb. Jo's orb rolls through a hole in the railing. The orb rolls down the roofs of the village before disappearing out of sight. Solay is apologetic and vows to find the orb.
The lost orb[]
Though Brightstar urges her to wait, Solay slides down the long red curtain and jumps over roofs in her search for Jo's missing Life Day Orb. Zanna comforts Jo and asks if she is okay. Brightstar tells Master Zanna that Solay went to find the orb by herself. Zanna counsels Jo, Brightstar and Nubs to help Solay find the missing orb before the start of the Lighting Ceremony. The trio slide down the long red curtain and jump over roofs.
Brightstar and Jo land on their feet while Nubs lands in a basket. They find themselves among several Wookiees inside the town's square. Solay searches several baskets but doesn't find the orb. The other younglings follow Solay while rubbing shoulders with the local Wookiees. Solay searches under a table, which annoys the local Wookiee patrons. She encounters Jo, Brightstar and Nubs. Solay takes responsibility for losing Jo's orb and wants to find it. However, Brightstar and Jo convince her to let them help.
Brightstar comes up with a plan to search the marketplace together. The four split up and head to different parts of the village. In the market, Brightstar bumps into a Wookiee merchant, causing him to drop his corn-like crops. After apologizing, Brightstar tells him that he is looking for a Life Day Orb inGalactic Basic Standard, which the Wookiee merchant doesn't understand. Brightstar continues his search.
The damaged orb[]
Nubs finds a blue Life Day Orb only to discover that is part of a stack of orbs for sale. TheWookiee shopkeeper shushes him away. Jo sees a Wookiee child holding what looks like an orb and asks if it is hers. The Wookiee child's parents reveal it is a large blue fruit. Solay finds a rolling blue creature whose shell resembles a Life Day orb. While Brightstar searches a basket of blue fruits, Solay sees a blue orb on basket in a conveyor belt system. Solay and Jo ask anadult Wookiee to stop the conveyor belt but he refuses.
Solay boards a basket but her extra weight causes the conveyor belt system to begin short circuiting. She usesthe Force tolevitate the blue orb towards her. However, the conveyor belt system breaks down and her basket falls. Brightstar and Nubs use the Force to cushion her basket's landing. Though Solay is safe, she is upset that Jo's Life Day Orb was cracked in the process. Jo comforts her while Brightstar suggests that Chief Whitaggikk will know how to fix it.
Later that night, Solay recounts her role in the accident to Chief Whitaggikk and asks if she can fix it. Whitaggikk says it can't be fixed before explaining that the orbs help remind everyone of the love they have for each other. Yoda and Zanna translate her remarks from Shyriiwook, adding as well as the memories and adventure. Jo still wants to hang the damaged orb. Solay and her Jedi friends use their Force powers to lower the branch so that the Wookiee can hang her orb. The Wookiees and guests cheer as the Life Day Orbs glow. Solay also teaches Brightstar and Nubs to say "Happy Life Day" in Shyriiwook.
