Alegion was a groundinfantry unit within anarmy. The501st Legion was one such unit within theGrand Army of the Republic during theClone Wars.[2] TheConfederacy of Independent Systems'Droid Army utilized legions, withCommanderRiff Tamson leading alegion ofaqua droids.[3] In theStormtrooper Corps, a legion consisted of fourregiments, giving one a total of 12,800stormtroopers.[4]Galactic EmperorSheev Palpatine deployed[1]Tempest Force,[5] an entire legion of his besttroops on theforestmoon ofEndor to protect thesecond Death Star'sshield generator. This legion battledRebel Alliance forces and nativeEwok warriors during theBattle of Endor.[1] TheFirst Order split theirstormtroopers into legions of 8,000troopers. There was one full legion on theResurgent-class Star DestroyerFinalizer.[6] TheSith Eternal split theirSith troopers into legions of 5,000 soldiers, with each legion being named after an ancientSith Lord.[7]
