LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is aLEGOStar Warsvideo game developed byTraveller's Tales. It adapts the nine films of theSkywalker saga, and was released onApril 5,2022.^[10]

Gameplay[]

Unlike previousLEGO Star Wars games, the levels inLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga do not need to be completed in a linear order. The hub area in the game is now a vast open-world environment that the player can fully explore. Additionally, random encounters can also appear in the hub relevant to the time that the player is taking part in, and players can choose to engage or disengage in the encounters.^[11] Each film consists of five missions, making for a total of forty-five levels.^[12]

Development[]

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was first announced in an interview withMatthew Wood atCelebration Chicago2019.^[14] The game's story has been overhauled, and the levels redone fromLEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga andLEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens.^[15]

TheMay 7,2020 episode ofThis Week! in Star Wars gave it a release date ofOctober 20,^[16] however the video was taken down and replaced with the release date omitted.^[17] A new look for the game premiered atGamescom Opening Night Live onAugust 25,2021.^[18]

Initially announced for a2020 release,^[14]The Skywalker Saga's first delay came inAugust of that year for spring2021.^[2] A year later, a new release date of spring2022 was revealed,^[19] with a specific date ofApril 5 confirmed inJanuary 2022.^[10] It was released onPC,Xbox One,Xbox Series X/S,PS4,PS5 andNintendo Switch. The game was released in both a standard edition and deluxe edition. The latter includes a special Darth Vader slipcover, a "Character Collection bundle" (seven DLC character packs), and a Luke Skywalker-with-Blue-Milk minifigure.^[2] The seven DLC packs included in the Character Collection bundle areThe Mandalorian Pack 1,The Mandalorian Pack 2, aRogue One: A Star Wars Story pack, aClassic Characters pack, aSolo: A Star Wars Story pack, aStar Wars: The Bad Batch pack, and aTrooper pack.^[10] A classicObi-Wan Kenobi is included in the digital release.^[20]

Several 2020 LEGO sets included exclusive codes that unlock certain characters and vehicles in the game, including:

Temmin Wexley(Code: SKYSAGA) was included for completing a survey for the game,^[21] andMister Bones(Code: BAC1CKP) was revealed in social media posts for the game.^[22] A holiday-themedChewbacca(Code: WOOKIEE) andPoe Dameron(Code: KORDOKU) were later revealed as well.^[23] The "Clone Mode" extra(Code: CLONE15) was also revealed byTT Games on Twitter.^[24]

OnMay 19, 2022 the game received an update with four newcapital ships and 34kyber bricks.^[25]

OnSeptember 9, 2022, aMarvel Entertainment video game showcase announced an upcomingGalactic Edition, which would include six new DLC character packs.^[26] These would be anObi-Wan Kenobi pack,Andor pack,The Book of Boba Fett pack,Star Wars: The Clone Wars pack,Star Wars Rebels pack, and aLEGO Star Wars Summer Vacation pack.^[27] It was released onNovember 1.^[28]

OnMay 4,2023,Luke Starkiller was added in a free update.^[29]

Notes and Trivia[]

• Prior to the games release it was said the galaxy would change based on what trilogy the player is playing in. It is unclear in what way it would have changed but a likely possibility is what ships, decorations, or characters are present in the world. However this feature is not present inside the final game outside of stuff present for certain missions.
• The official description for the game lists Starkiller Base as one of the planets that can be revisited in free roam however in the final game outside of a small section between levels within the Force Awakens set of levels, the planet does not appear in free roam.
