During theRepublic Era, anecological calamity occurred on theplanetKwenn. In thetime before theHigh Republic Era,mining firms were heavily drawn to Kwenn due to the presence of preciousgemstones. Theminers caused extensive damage to the environment, levelingmountains and relocatingoceans, subsequently leaving the remains of their mining as colossal piles of slag. As a result, the climate worsened, flooding low areas withtoxicity. During the High Republic, theJedi Order andGalactic Republic saw many missions to Kwenn, led byJedi MasterOppo Rancisis, to seek a solution to the disaster. As relocating Kwenn's millions of inhabitants was not viable, theJedi and Republic instead sought to restore Kwenn's environment in theGrand Renewal, one of theGreat Works of the High Republic, resulting in the creation of theGem Cities of Kwenn.[1]
