|---|
It is a time of uncertainty for the Jedi Order. With theadvent of the Clone Wars, the sworn peacekeepers ofthe Republic find themselves thrust into battle asgenerals in the struggle against the Separatists.Jedi Master Mace Windu has assembled a small covertteam to investigate Separatist activity on the planetHissrich. Having anticipated the Jedi's interference, the Separatist General Grievous has recruited AD-W4,a mercenary droid with a thirst for murdering Jedi, toprotect their interests on Hissrich. However, after detaining Prosset Dibs for turning onhis Jedi team, Master Windu's remaining group of JediKnights Kit Fisto and Rissa Mano are back to the taskat hand. They've found the Separatist droid base, butnow it must be destroyed.... |
Plot summary[]
On Hissrich, Jedi Master Kit Fisto engages battle droids at the Separatist base of operations, and while he cuts through them he tells them of the large amphibious beast from his home planet of Glee Anselm called a Wooriid. A slow moving carnivore with massive jaws, some creatures will avoid the scraps from its teeth and perch on the beast to wait for leftovers, but little do they know that neurotoxins in the slimy skin will paralyze them. Not to be taken lightly, Fisto states that he’s the fangs of the beast that they currently face and it’s already too late for them.
Meanwhile inside the base, Mace Windu reassures a doubtful Rissa Mino about her role to play and wishes that the Force be with her before the two part ways. In the command center, mercenary droid AD-W4 commands his forces to get the cargo loaded and sent offworld, but Mace Windu interrupts him and attacks with his lightsaber only to find it met by AD-W4’s electrostaff. With weapons locked in place, Windu is taunted and told that he likes to be a general and a weapon as it gives him an outlet for his anger. When he calls him a hypocrite, Mace forces him away and takes the offensive, stabbing him through the chest and keeping him pinned to the ground. Finding himself standing over his opponent with his lightsaber once more, he tells AD-W4 not to mock or underestimate that which he doesn’t understand. Close by, Fisto eventually lets his ego take the best of him as he finds himself surrounded by battle droids, but Rissa Mino comes to his aid and joins him in the fight against the Separatist forces. Just then, a Separatist vessel launches from the base with the harvested energy plants, but when AD-W4 believes that he’s won, an explosion erupts in the sky as the ship is destroyed - all a part of Rissa’s mission. Having been beaten, AD-W4 asks Mace if he believes in life after death since he’s a religious man, and uses a propulsion system to launch his head into the sky. However, Mace doesn’t let the mercenary droid escape so easily and uses the Force to crush the head of AD-W4, destroying him for good.
After the conflict and back on Coruscant, Mace Windu reports to the Jedi Council and they follow up by sending troops to Hissrich to deal with any remaining droids and aid the indigenous peoples through replanting and reconstruction efforts. When Yoda explains that they’ve taken samples of the flora to study, a constrained Prosset Dibs speaks up and mocks this, and his matter is now brought to hand. He stands accused of attacking a Jedi Master and General in the Army of the Republic, and faces heresy and insubordination. When asked what defense he has for his actions, Dibs says that he’s done nothing wrong as it is the Council - the self-proclaimed arbiters of the Force, who owe an explanation. He accuses them of sitting on their thrones of deception and giving orders to those under their tutelage for their own means. It is not a blind man who is the only one to see their true nature, and with that, he’s spoken his piece and cut his ties as there’s no defense to give. When he asks what the “tyrants” are to do with him, Yoda points out that his mind already seems to be made up, and Ki-Adi Mundi states that he’s been found guilty of insubordination and treason. Dibs believes and wants the death penalty, but Mace defends him by saying that he is as much a victim of this terrible conflict as anyone. He is confused and angry which are both valid emotions, and shouldn’t be faulted for that. It is the Jedi’s duty to bring him back into the light, and so Mace moves for Dib’s punishment to be confined to work in the library, as perhaps he’ll learn something that he seems to have forgotten on his journey. With this, Dib’s trial concludes, but he tells Windu that they make a fool of him, and he makes an even bigger one out of himself as his hubris will be his undoing.
Later, Rissa Mino speaks with Windu about the events and questions if that was the best course of action to have taken. Mace explains that they can’t afford to lose a talent like Prosset, and the Jedi face their greatest challenge yet. While his feelings are misguided, they are understandable and he prays that he comes around in time as they’ll need his aid to face what’s coming. When Rissa asks what is coming, she is told hardship and trials that the Jedi have never faced before. Mace yearns for a quick and peaceful end to the war, but he fears that that may not be attainable just yet. When she questions what they need to do, she is told that they need to trust in the Force and the path that it has set them on, as that’s what they’ve been trained to do for their whole lives. They need to stand in defense of people across the whole galaxy, and do what any Jedi would do when staring down evil in the face - fight.
