TheImperial Department of Military Research[6] (IDMR)[14] was a government military research agency[2] within theGalactic Empire'smilitary,[12] with itsDark trooper program falling under anImperial remnant led byMoffGideon.[15]Engineers within the IDMR often worked closely with theImperial Security Bureau to createdroids and equipment for secret operations.[16]
The department manufactured thearmors used by Imperialstormtroopers,[4] as well as theflight helmets worn by theTIE fighter pilots.[6] It also developedIT-O interrogation droids in secret,[8] as well as9D9-s54 Dianoga spy droids.[9]
