Heart

Theheart was an organ that pumpedblood through the body of certainspecies^[2] (includinghumans,^[3]Kaleesh,^[2]Rodians, andUmbarans^[4]) by "beating." Smaller lifeforms had a quicker heartbeat than larger ones.^[5] Some species, likeZabrak,^[6]Cereans,^[2] andChadra-Fans, had two hearts.^[7] TheWermal species had three hearts.^[8]Skakoan hearts were in the lower region of their abdomens, therefore a shot to the upper chest was not fatal to them.^[9] Humans, on the other hand, had their hearts in their chest cavity.^[10]

When an individual became physically active, excited or ill, their heart rate could rise significantly.^[3] When a being was exposed to cold and inadequately protected, their heart rate and breathing would slow so that they became hard to detect at all. If the heart ever stopped beating completely,death ensued.^[5] HumanJedi were known to have much slower heart rates than an average human.^[11] The RodiansenatorOnaconda Farr died after drinkingpoison that affected his heart. Physical injuries to the heart could also lead to fatal issues: theUmbaran senatorMee Deechi perished afterLolo Purs drove a dagger through his heart.^[12] Disease was another malady that could affect the heart. One illness rotted the heart ofSenache and eventually killed him.^[13]PrincessBreha Organa ofAlderaanfell from theAlderaanianmountainAppenza Peak while completing herChallenge of the Body and almost died. As a result her heart andlungs were replaced withpulmonodes.^[14]

The word "heart" also referred to a person's personality or disposition. While fightingAlexsandr Kallus,Grand AdmiralThrawn told him that he had "the heart of a rebel."^[15] During thewar between theFirst Order and theResistance,Supreme LeaderSnoke accusedKylo Ren of having "too much of hisfather's heart."^[16]
