Purpose
Ahat was any of various head coverings that could be worn for warmth, style or as a signifier of status.

Neimoidians were known for wearing large hats.
Senators,Neimoidian leaders of theTrade Federation, andImperialdignitaries all donned hats with a distinctive shape, height, orcolor. A brimless hat fitted with a peak were referred to as acap. Military caps often indicated service and rank, and their color and style helpedcommanders recognize units on the battlefield.[2]

Cad Bane, aDurosbounty hunter, was well known for wearing a wide-brimmed hat throughout his sordid career spanning theClone Wars, the reign of theGalactic Empire until his death in9 ABY. Bane once killed another bounty hunter namedBulduga because he wanted theIthorian's hat.[1]
