Usage and history
Aflamethrower orflame projector was a weapon which fired a burning stream of liquid or gas.
Description[]

Boba Fett using a wrist-mounted flamethrower
The flame projector shot a jet of ignited liquid that had a short range but inflicted great damage and could set targets onfire. They were useful in close-quarters combat and attacks on caves and bunkers. They were also effective in boarding operations.
For all their power, flame projectors had a key weakness. Because they employed volatile chemicals under pressure, the weapon could sometimes explode if damaged.[1]
Flamethrowers were extremely useful againstlightsaber wielders as the flame could not be blocked by a blade. A skilled enough Force wielder could use the Force to shield themselves from the flames, but this took considerable effort and uncommon strength in the Force.[8]
Merr-Sonn andCzerka were leading manufacturers of flame projectors.[1] Some models of flamethrowers included theModel C-22 flame carbine, theModel CR-24 flame rifle, and theOppressor flamethrower which was used by thestorm commandos of theImperialStormtrooper Corps. Some flamethrowers wereminiaturized so that they could be worn on the wrist, such as theZX miniature flame projector andCZ wrist-mounted flame projector,Dash Rendar also modified his blaster pistol to be used as a flamethrower. Larger flamethrowers called flame cannons were mounted on vehicles such as theCZ-28 Flamestrike flame cannon andModel CR-28 flame cannon.
History[]
The sale of flamethrowers was primarily restricted to legitimate military organizations andpolice forces.[2]
Because of their usefulness, flamethrowers were sometimes used bybounty hunters, most notablyDurge,Jango Fett, andBoba Fett.Cad Bane also had a flamethrower built into his wristgauntlets.Walon Vau also had one.Sebulba, a notoriousDugPodracer, installed a flamethrower in his podracer to use against other racers. During theClone Wars, clone blaze troopers andflame troopers hadmassive flamethrowers capable of melting most materials. SomeARC Troopers integrated miniature flamethrowers into one of the gauntlets on their armor. Certain models ofassassin droids were equipped with flamethrowers, such asASN-121,IG-88, andL8-L9, as well as theHK-series assassin droids prominent during theOld Sith Wars, who seemed to take perverse delight in setting their enemies on fire.[3] TheOverlordPre Vizsla and hisDeath Watch warriors used flamethrowers atMing Po town on the planetCarlac. During theJedi Civil War,Revan may have purchased droid flamethrowers for his two droids,HK-47 andT3-M4, during his quest for theStar Forge. One model of droid flamethrower was theBaragwin flame thrower.
TheGalactic Empire and theCorporate Sector occasionally used flamethrowers against rioters, due to their horrific and demoralizing effects. Around the beginning of theGalactic Civil War, theclone ofGalen Marek encountered several large flamethrower-wieldingIncinerator war droids onKamino.
