Plot summary[]
TheEwok heroWicket Wystri Warrick retells to a group ofWoklings the story of how he met his friend, theRebelPrincessLeia, and how they drove out theCruel Ones together. He inspires them with the tale, reminding them that Leia's heart will always be withBright Tree Village.
In theAnoat sector,Grand MoffUbrik Adelhard speaks withGeneralTern Koyatta, who had escapedEndor but whosefrigate had been damaged by debris strewn by theexplosion of theSecond Death Star. He hopes to prove himself to the Empire and shares with Adelhard information about aweapons depot buried deep in theforestmoon. Koyatta asks for permission to assemble a team to retrieve it for Adelhard. The Moff is skeptical, especially as the details of Koyatta's identity and story cannot be confirmed, but gives the General thefunds and resources to start the mission.
Back on Endor,ChiefChirpa leads avillage meeting. He discusses with his tribe about the ramifications of their recent conflict with the Cruel Ones, how they have been brought into the widergalaxy. Namely, they need to decide what to do the next time they receive an off-world visitor. Wicket decides to speak up, weaving a metaphor in which their new contact with off-worlders is adding to thesong of nature, and that they must embrace cooperating with friendly off-worlders rather than fearing them outright.Meedro, a loner who lives in the outskirts of Bright Tree Village territory, rebuts Wicket's sentiment. He points out that life is not a song and that outsiders bring weapons and danger. The Ewoks continue to debate whether outsiders should be welcomed or feared.
Elsewhere on the moon, in theSolemn Swamp Forest, Tern Koyatta's team suffers a rough landing into thetrees. The general is accompanied by the formerscout trooperKhu Fornot, theDowutinscavengerKoll Orvenk and his body-lessRA-7 protocol droidE-X77, and thebounty hunting duoZuckuss and4-LOM. They landed far from the weapons depot, but hope to find clues to get them on the trail towards their quarry. The group is alerted by a party ofDuloks leaping from atop the trees, armed withspears. Koyatta's team fights against thewarriors. In the skirmish, Koyatta is wounded in the right lateral abdomen, but the otherseliminate the enemies.
In the skirmish, theirshuttle is damaged, meaning they are stranded on Endor. One of the Duloks lives, clinging to life as they strain to speak their dying words. The Dulok speaks of their fears: theGreat Devourer, theRed Ghost, and the darkdeity theAdversary, who the Dulok indicates is 4-LOM. They are observed from above by ared-haired Ewok warrior.
In theHappy Grove Forest, Wicket and Meedro set out to checktraps. Despite their differences, Wicket tells Meedro he always looked up to him for his many rumored feats. Wicket soon spots a full trap and excitedly rushes to it. He ignores Meedro's warnings and hastily cuts open the netting. What he thought was the tail of some creature turns out to be thetongue of a fearsometemptor. The predator snaps Wicket's spear in two and prepares to bite Wicket. Meedro strikes the temptor in its tail, which causes the creature to auto-amputate the appendage and flee.
The two Ewoks decide to head back to their village. Meedro carries the temptor's tail, hoping to use it to make himself somefood from it. He reiterates to Wicket that he lives alone because he does not want all of the responsibilities and vulnerabilities of living in the village. Despite his loyalty, he prioritizes his safety. The Ewoks are interrupted by the sound of the village's intruder call. They rush to the edge of the village to find Koyatta's group among their people. 4-LOM poses as the Adversary and orders the Ewoks to stand down.
