- "Noble news out of Kubindi, though. Tragic, but noble."
- ―Randa Besadii Diori, toJacen Solo[1]
During theYuuzhan Vong War, in26 ABY, theplanetKubindi wasattacked by theYuuzhan Vong. The invaders were drawn to Kubindi because of theKubaz history of genetically engineered insects. However, most of the population evacuated before the attack, thanks to the efforts of theDozen-and-Two Avengers, a group led by the JediKyp Durron.
History[]
Invasion[]
- "Our only communication has come courtesy of Jedi Kyp Durron. I’m sure you’ve seen that on HoloNet."
"Who hasn’t? I suppose Jedi Corran Horn has returned to his usual heroics as well, by now." - ―Ayddar Nylykerka andSien Sovv[1]

AKubaz, a native of Kubindi
In25 ABY, theextra-galactic race of invaders, theYuuzhan Vong, launched a massiveconquest campaign directed against all worlds of theGalactic community.[6]Less than a year later,[7] after beingdefeated atFondor the Yuuzhan Vong CommanderNas Choka retaliated by swiftly conquering all ofHutt Space.[8] The Yuuzhan Vong forces then attackedJunkfort Station and the planetKegan, after which they proceeded directly toward the planetKubindi.[4] The choice of such a target for the attack was explained by the fact that Kubindi's history ofgenetically engineering insect species had made the planet’s resources appealing to the Yuuzhan Vong.[1]
The peaceful, culturedKubaz were no challenge to the Yuuzhan Vong;[2] however, theJedi MasterKyp Durron, who was stationed atBothawui, had anticipated the attack and broughthis own forces to the planet. Because the Yuuzhan VongLieutenantMujmai Iinan had proposed that Kubindi could be taken with only half the usual number ofcoralskippers,[1][8] Kyp's Dozen was able to single-handedly hold off[9] the reduced force long enough to allow allspaceworthy ships to flee offworld,[1][8] and most of the population evacuated before the war fleet came within striking range.[2] The displaced Kubaz had no choice but to join the inestimable ranks ofrefugees.[10]
Aftermath[]
Nearest influence[]
- "Word is out that Kyp’s Dozen held off a Yuuzhan Vong attack force long enough that the Kubaz got every spaceworthy ship offplanet. You cannot call that anything less than heroic."
- ―Randa Besadii Diori, to Jacen Solo[1]
The actions of Kyp Durron and the Dozen-and-Two Avengers during the evacuation of Kubindi had a positive effect on their image and were covered on theHoloNet. However,Jacen Solo regarded Durron's heroics as inappropriate and willful.[1]
Serious consequences awaited the Yuuzhan Vong lieutenant Mujmai Iinan. After learning of the loss of so many potential sacrifices, theWarmasterTsavong Lah had Iinan sacrificed to thethe gods following the battle.[8] Soon afterward, theSenatorViqi Shesh, who sought to become the head of a new collaborationist government,[9] contacted the Warmaster Tsavong Lah in an attempt to bring the war to a peaceful end. She described the simultaneous withdrawal from Kubindi andRodia as a gesture of goodwill, but her proposal was ignored.[1]
Many of the worlds and star systems conquered at that time, including Kubindi, had been home to some of the most visible and active starfaring species. Whether by design on the part of the invaders or merely by coincidence, this strategy gave further fuel to the arguments ofnon-Human activists. The most paranoid believed that the New Republic leadership had somehow orchestrated a conspiracy to do what theEmpire had failed to do – to kill all non-Humans.[2]
Further destiny of Kubindi[]
When the Yuuzhan Vong took control of Kubindi,[8] theyenslaved those left behind on the planet and forced them to assist in altering Kubindi's environment to grow food for the invaders.[2] Later, the invaders exterminated nearly everyinsect species that had been cultivated by the Kubaz. This left the surviving population with little or no food,[8] which, if left unchecked, would have wiped out every Kubaz on the planet within ayear – if not withinmonths.[2]
Kubindi was not liberated before the end of the war,[4] when thesurrender of the invaders was signed.[11] Following the Yuuzhan Vong's defeat, the remaining Kubaz, greatly diminished in number, began the process of returning to their homeworld to rebuild their fractured society[10] and to restore its former glory.[8]
Behind the scenes[]
The Battle of Kubindi was first mentioned in the sixth novel of theNew Jedi Order series,The New Jedi Order: Balance Point, which was published in2000. The event was briefly described, serving only as a tense backdrop for the narrative rather than receiving detailed coverage. Although the events of the novel took place less than a year after those of the series' first book,The New Jedi Order: Vector Prime, which was set in25 ABY, the 2008 sourcebookThe Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia erroneously listed the date of the battle as27 ABY.
