Purpose
Engines, also known asthrusters, were devices used to propel vehicles across land, through aplanet'satmosphere, or through the void ofspace. Engines could vary in size and shape, with some vehicles likepodracers consisting of little more than two engines and acockpit.[2]
There were at least three categories of engines:repulsorlifts (which required a large mass to push against in order to function),sublight engines (which drove ships in realspace at speeds below that of light), andhyperdrives (which attained lightspeed and propelled ships inhyperspace).[3]
Engine power in somestarships could be boosted to increase the vehicle's speed.Asteroid thrusters were a type of engine which could be attached toasteroids and used to move them.[4]
