- "It didn't stop here, either. Pieces of that ship have been popping up out of hyperspace all over the Outer Rim. They're calling them Emergences."
- ―Eye of the NihilMarchion Ro[1]
TheEmergences were a series of disasters that occurred in the aftermath of theGreat Hyperspace Disaster, in which thefreighterLegacy Run came apart inhyperspace while maneuvering to avoid aNihilstarship, with numerous fragments of its wreckage entering theHetzal system at near-lightspeed. A combined effort of theGalactic Republic and theJedi Order headed byJedi MasterAvar Kriss managed to prevent a majority of the damage at Hetzal. However, further fragments of the wreckage continued to emerge from hyperspace across theOuter Rim Territories.[1]
Thefirst Emergence occurred in theAb Dalis system, with approximately twenty million peoplekilled when a fragment struck theplanetAb Dalis. As they continued,[1] entire civilizations were wiped out by the Emergences.[4] As a result of the disasters,Supreme ChancellorLina Soh enacted closures ofhyperspace routes throughout the Outer Rim. With anavidroid array created byKeven Tarr, the Republic was able to predict the locations of future Emergences, recovering theflight recorder of theLegacy Run to determine what had caused the initial disaster.[1]
TheKoboh Emergence slammed into theMoon ofKoboh, smashing a large part of it into debris. Most of this flew onto the surface of the planet, causing major destruction and hastening the Republic's ongoing efforts to abandon the planet after theAttack on Tanalorr.[5] The planetBrendok was hit by an Emergence,[4] rendering it uninhabitable. By the followingcentury, however, the planet was teeming with life.[6]Bri-Phrang City was hit by anEmergence, which damaged ageothermal plant that provided power toEriadu City.[7]
