Plot summary[]

Set on the primordial world ofTython, the home of the ancientJe'daii Order — a precursor to the laterJedi — the narrative delves deep into a pivotal period in galactic history. Here, on a planet teeming with theForce, theJe'daii guideForce-sensitive beings and believe in harmonizing both the light and dark sides of the Force.

At the story's center isLanoree Brock, an adeptJe'daii Ranger.The Je'daii Council entrusts her with a mission of grave consequence: to prevent her brotherDalien's plan that threatens to consume theTython system. Believed to have met his end during a sacredJe'daii rite known as "The Descent,"Dalien resurfaces with a radical departure fromJe'daii teachings.

The narrative seamlessly blendsLanoree's present quest with memories of the past. As she embarks on her mission to intercept and persuadeDalien, the reader is privy to their shared history. Insights into their rigorous Je'daii training, mutual experiences, and the deep philosophical rift that separated them are laid bare.Dalien's growing disenchantment contrasts starkly againstLanoree's unwavering commitment to theJe'daii way.

As the tale reaches its climax, a confrontation between the siblings becomes inevitable. In their final encounter,Dalien's plans are unveiled in their entirety: he wants to open a hyperspace rift even at the risk of obliteratingTython. DespiteLanoree's desperate attempts to reason with him, a battle ensues. Faced with no other choice and to saveTython, Lanoree ultimately resorts to taking her brother's life, stopping the impending disaster.

After thwarting her brother's plans,Lanoree, having taken actions to ensure the safety ofTython and the broadergalaxy, is left to reflect and grapple with the weight of her choices and the familial bond that was severed.
