David W. Collins worked forLucasArts as the lead sound designer and voice director with the video game division of the company and also served as an actor and voice actor for the company.

Biography[]

In2006, Collins recordeddeath yells ofstormtroopers for the LucasArtsvideo gameLEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy because the LucasArts sound department did all of the vocalizations for the game at the time. The sound effects were eventually placed in the old LucasArts archive.[1]

Collins's most prominentStar Wars voice roles includePROXY inStar Wars: The Force Unleashed,Darth Maul inStar Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron,General Grievous inStar Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron, and thebattle droids inStar Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith,Star Wars: Battlefront II,Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron andStar Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron.

Collins has served as a host atStar Wars CelebrationsIV,V, andVI. At Celebration VI in August 2012, he was inducted as an honorary member of the501st Legion. He also performed the role ofHan Solo in the live performance ofStar Wars: Smuggler's Gambit, an original radio-style drama exclusive to the event.

Collins voiced several characters in the2015 filmStar Wars: Episode VIIThe Force Awakens, including severalstormtroopers,Resistance soldiers and a Hangar Control Officer aboard theFinalizer.[2] He also provided additional voices inRogue One: A Star Wars Story.[3]

Collins was the sound designer for the2020 filmThe LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special. For every trilogy era thatRey Skywalkertime travelled to, Collins used specific sounds from that era to keep the authenticity. For example, the scene of thetrench run used sounds fromA New Hope, scenes on theplanetsDagobah andHoth used sounds fromThe Empire Strikes Back, thepodracing scene onTatooine usedpodracer sounds fromThe Phantom Menace, the scene onExegol used lightning sounds fromThe Rise of Skywalker, and the sound ofDin Djarin'sblaster pistol from theThe Mandalorian was used forhis cameo. Collins also found several vocalizations ofChewbacca's family fromThe Star Wars Holiday Special in theSkywalker Sound Library. He used those samples in the scene when Chewbacca's family showed up on theMillennium Falcon. Collins also found stormtrooper death yells in the old LucasArts archive, and he incorporated the yells in the scene in which Rey andDarth Vaderduel while travelling throughportals and varioustroopers are flying around.[1]

Collins acted as a sound effects editor for the seriesThe Book of Boba Fett.[4] He used an ARP 2600 synthesizer to create the sounds for theRX-Series droid acting as a card dealer for thepremiere episode.[5]

He appeared atCelebration Anaheim in 2022,[6] where he hosted aStar Wars: The Bad Batch panel onMay 29.[7]
