Adatapad,[1] also known as atablet,[4] was a small electronic device used for inputting, storing, and displaying information.[1]

Datapads have adatascreen[5] that displayed common data for its users, such as displaying acargo manifest for an inspection crew during a ship inspection.[6]

Additionally, some datapads came with a built-inlocator[7] and ascanner.[8] Atraining datapad was a type of datapad used for training by aspiringcadets of theImperialAcademy.[9] The datapads, such as those used by theAdvanced Science Division of theGalactic Empire also held access codes, and were used as keys to open locked doors inside secured facilities.[10]

Datapads could be used by a technically proficient user toslice and gain access to other secured devices[11]. They could also act as aHolodiary.[12] Some datapads also had a built-inholoprojector that could project holographic images, such as an identification hologram of abounty target.[13] In emergency situations, some include a built-indistress beacon that sends adistress signal,[14] or secure transceivers to transmit/receive secured information like encrypted coordinates[15]

At least some datapads had reflective screen surfaces.Merei Spanjaf once saw a dim reflection of herself when staring at her datapad in consternation.[16]
