Organization
Position type
- "This is Mos Espa and I am Daimyo here."
- ―Boba Fett[3]
TheDaimyo, also known as the Daimyo of Tatooine, was the ruler over thedesertplanetTatooine—that was maintained through the allegiance and tribute of vassals, such as government officials and proprietors. The title of Daimyo was held successively by thecrime lordsJabba Desilijic Tiure,Bib Fortuna, andBoba Fett.
Powers[]
- "I'm the Daimyo of this district and I will bring order."
"You're a crime boss. Just like the rest of them." - ―Boba Fett and Drash[1]

Daimyo of Tatooine overall was a position of powerful status on the planet.
The title of Daimyo was self-appointed; the holder of this title was generally responsible for enforcing laws, maintaining order, and protecting property. Additionally, the Daimyo was acrime lord who controlled businesses[1] and government officials,[3] and received tribute from vassals.[2]
The Daimyo could also grant audiences to their vassals. A less powerful Daimyo relied on alliances with other crime families in order to preserve their status.[1]
History[]
Reign of Jabba Desilijic Tiure[]
- "Jabba ruled with fear. I intend to rule with respect."
- ―Boba Fett[2]

Jabba Desilijic Tiure was a Daimyo for centuries; his majordomo Bib Fortuna succeeded him briefly after his death.
TheHuttJabba Desilijic Tiure ruled acriminal empire during theRepublic Era[4] and theImperial Era[5] as a daimyo[6] andcrime lord. Having spread his operations and influence across theOuter Rim Territories,[7] and earning great wealth and riches out of various criminal activities such as smuggling andslave trading.[8]
Jabba was harsh, and would demand endless tributes from various local factions and governments on Tatooine in order to keep them in line. These vassals, out of fear, would not dare challenge the ruthless crime lord.[2] Many of Jabba'scaptains accrued wealth and riches under the Hutt.[9]
Bib Fortuna rule[]
- "He was a terrible leader with no right to the throne."
- ―Fennec Shand, referring to Bib Fortuna[9]
Following Jabba'sdemise, hismajordomoBib Fortuna seized power and amassed servants and slaves of his own.[10] Jabba's former captains quickly left when Fortuna claimed to be the heir.Fennec Shand claimed that Fortuna was a "terrible leader" with no legitimate claim on Jabba's throne. This resulted in the captains attempting to take his place, but were thwarted by Fortuna's guile and treachery.[9]
Fortuna's reign ended when he waskilled byBoba Fett; a formerbounty hunter who worked with Jabba's syndicate[3] as well as theGalactic Empire.[11] Fett swore to kill Fortuna for betraying him.[9]
Rise of Boba Fett[]
- "You should remember, you serve as long as the Daimyo of Tatooine deem it so."
- ―Boba Fett, to Mok Shaiz[3]

Boba Fett killed Fortuna in order to become the new Daimyo of Mos Espa.
In the aftermath of Fortuna'sdeath, Fett foundedhis own criminal empire as the self-proclaimed Daimyo ofMos Espa and Tatooine. Unlike Jabba and Fortuna, Fett intended to rule through respect, though the people initially did not like the change of power and did not respect him.[3] Fett accepted payments of tribute[2] and vowed to bring order to theWorker's District of Mos Espa. The office ofMayor of Mos Espa lacked real power[1] and was therefore subordinate to the Daimyo.[3] Unlike Fortuna who enrichedMayorMok Shaiz in an effort to hold onto power,[1] Fett attempted to assert authority over the mayor by exacting tribute from Shaiz.[3] Thewater-mongerLortha Peel offered to double his tribute to the Daimyo in exchange for protection against astreet gang that had been stealing hiswater inventory. Instead, Fett hired the gang afterDrash andSkad informed him about the unemployment and profiteering in his district. Fett also instructed Peel to lower his prices or relocate his business toMos Eisley.[1]
Fett's rule was initially challenged by the arrival ofThe Twins, who wanted to claim Jabba's territory through kinship. Fett initially refused to cede his lands, so they sentKrrsantan to kill him. Krrsantan failed in his task, so the Twins apologized by giving Fett arancor. They stated that the mayor had promised the planet to thePyke Syndicate, not wanting to start a war over a worthless "rock". Initial attempts of negotiation failed, with Fett agreeing toVanth's reinforcements in return for eliminating thespice trade. This caused Jabba's captainsbetraying Fett, as they did not approve of his rule in the first place similar to Fortuna. The Pykes attempted to make their presence known on the planet by bombing Sanctuary and hiringCad Bane to intimidate the people of Freetown.
This resulted in abattle in Mos Espa that ultimately resulted a victory for Fett. As Fett stood up for his people against the Pykes, they were grateful for his protection and began to respect him.
Residence[]

The palace was the fortress of the Daimyo.
Daimyos resided in alarge palace[2] on the fringes of theNorthern Dune Sea[7] in Mos Espa.[2] The structure was a fortress, with a defensive design that focused primarily on protection from attack.[13] It was once amonastery that belonged to theB'omarr Order, areligious community who believed in isolating themselves from all physical stimuli to enhance their mental powers. The earliest parts of the monastery were underground, and included a mine.[14]
