Corellia was aplanet located inthe galaxy'sCore Worlds known for its acepilots and largestarships. The planet's vastshipyards produced many vessels over hundreds of years, includingstarfighters andStar Destroyers for theGalactic Empire as well as other famous models, such as theYT-1300 light freighter.

It was thehomeworld ofHan Solo,Qi'ra,[5]Wedge Antilles,Crix Madine,BoShek,[25] theBesaliskGadren,[21] theExecutive Records OfficerWinshur Bratt,[20] thebounty huntersDengar[26] andMercurial Swift,[27] and theJedi younglingsKalifa[28] andPetro.[29]

Description[]

Flag of Corellia

Flag of Corellia

Corellia was located in theCorellian sector[2] in theCore Worlds. It had a temperate climate and was covered inforests, jungles, and urban centers.[1] The officialplanetarycolors of Corellia were blue and gold.[7] One majorcity wasCoronet City (also the planet's capital), which was home toshipyards that, during theImperial Era, producedTIE fighters andStar Destroyers for theGalactic Empire.[10] The shipyards were one of Corellia's most prominent characteristics in addition to being known for producing capablepilots.[30] Corellia also manufactured theYT-1300 light freighter, including theMillennium Falcon.[31]

The planet'shuman inhabitants were calledCorellians[21] and were known for their wanderlust.[1] Besides humans, Corellia was also inhabited by severalalienspecies includingBarbadelans,[10]Besalisks,[21]Czerialans,Grindalids,[10]Kel Dor,Pa'lowicks,Rodians,Sullustans,[5]Twi'leks, andUgors.[10] In addition, Corellia was also home to several native creatures includingCorellian hounds[1] andfleek eels.[18] Thepolitics of Corellia were often dangerous and sometimes drew blood, with different politicians vying for new positions and engaging in shady deals.[7]

History[]

Early history[]

"There's so much history on Corellia! Too bad it's such an awful place."
DK-RA-43 in theGalactic Explorer's Guide[8]

An ancient Core World,[1] Corellia was thehomeworld of natives known for their wanderlust. In the time before they explored thestars, Corellians embarked onocean voyages to satisfy that wanderlust,[18] traversing the seas to discover new continents and catch vast quantities offish.[2] After the advent of space travel, Corellian royalty sponsored exploration and colonization efforts that helped expand galactic civilization by furthering the frontiers of theOld Republic in its youth.[18] Corellian colonists settled on thousands of worlds, and itshyperspacescouts paved many ofthe galaxy's majorhyperspace routes, making Corellia an important planet in the Galactic Republic.[8]

The planet became known through thegalaxy for the Corellian people's wanderlust and its massiveshipyards.[1] Eventually, the ancient Corellian royalty, which includedPrince-AdmiralJonashe Solo, faded away and the throne stood vacant for manyyears.[4] In themillennia leading up to the Imperial Era, Corellia's key role in the expansion of galactic civilization[1] decreased and power shifted to younger, more vibrant planets. The once influential world gained a reputation as a polluted planet with extensive poverty and crime.[8] With its importance in galactic affairs reduced, Corellia was nonetheless recognized for its historic significance.[18]

High Republic Era[]

"Help us stop the Nihil. Help us save Corellia. If this planet falls to the Nihil, who knows what planet will be next, and you may have your gripes with the Republic, but that's nothing compared to the brutality and horror that life will become under the Nihil. Come to the shipyard! Come now! Fight for Corellia! Fight for the galaxy! Fight for light and life!"
Alys Ongwa[7]

The population came to show isolationist tendencies during theHigh Republic Era, leading to the creation of the satirical songCorellia for Corellians. TheNihil launched aninfiltration of the Corellian government to help with thedestruction of Starlight Beacon, but the infiltrators were defeated by a force ofJedi.[7] Nevertheless, the infiltration set the stage for aCorellian civil war in229 BBY.[32] Ahostage situation in Coronet City dragged on for several weeks.[33] Themassacre at the Greens effectively wiped out the Nihil presence on Corellia.[34]

Twilight of the Republic[]

Thebounty hunterCad Bane was involved in an incident on Corellia that he later said was humiliating.[35]SenatorGarm Bel Iblis represented Corellia in theGalactic Senate by the end of theClone Wars, but he was one of several senators who grew opposed toSupreme ChancellorSheev Palpatine's governance.[36] The obscureRepublic Group allegedly had ties to holding companies on Corellia, as well as some on Coruscant.[37]

Age of the Empire[]

"I don't like the Empire[…] because it's what I ran away from on Corellia. It's a machine that turns people and places into credits, leaving the grass dead and the air polluted and the sea empty."
Midnight, on the Galactic Empire's effect on Corellia[4]
Coronet City in 13 BBY

Coronet City in 13 BBY

When the Galactic Empire came to power, Corellia's shipyards were transformed into Imperial facilities,[18] and though Corellia was a faded industrial world, it was used to buildTIEfighters and Star Destroyers for theImperial Navy. Many impoverished Corellian commoners sought to escape their homeworld for a better life.[1] In the immediate aftermath of the Clone Wars, theBarsha family was set to take the lead in Imperialdestroyer-production on Corellia through its factories, with family heirJaylen Barsha expecting them to become the richest family on Corellia thanks to these contracts and for thousands of destroyers to be built in their facilities. However, the family "mistake"Sliro Barsha spotted an opportunity to make a name for himself and accused his family of plotting against Palpatine, destroying the Barsha family's standing and leading to his own rise through the Imperial ranks. Additionally, Sliro dispatched the reprogrammedBX-series droid commandoND-5 to wipe out his fellow Barshas, although Jaylen would manage to subdue and twist the droid to his own ends.[38]

By13 BBY,[39] theCorellian Security Forces including itsemigration officers had become an extension of the Imperial security forces on Corellia withPatrol Troopers assisting in policing matters.[18] Several crime syndicates includingLadyProxima'sWhite Worms operated in the coastal Coronet City.[40] The White Worms used local street urchins calledscrumrats as vermin-catchers, pick-pockets, errand runners, and crime operatives.[41] Two notable scrumrats wereHan andQi'ra who sought to escape the White Worms and Corellia by going offworld.[10] TheUnbroken Clan had apalace located on Corellia where theGrand Leader resided.[15]

After escaping theDen of the White Worms, Han and Qi'ra tried to escape throughCoronet City Spaceport by bribing anemigration officer. However, Qi'ra was recaptured and sold toSarkin Enneb. Han managed to travel offworld and join theCarida Academy as anImperial cadet with the hopes of becoming apilot. Due tohis insubordination, however, Solo was reassigned to theImperial Army and became aSwamp trooper onMimban. Meanwhile, Qi'ra became the chieflieutenant toDryden Vos in theCrimson Dawn crime syndicate.[10]

Around10 BBY,Nakano Lash's crew undertook amission to Corellia,[32] as part of a war between the Unbroken Clan and the Mourner's Wail crime syndicates.[42] Also around ten years before theBattle of Yavin,[43] an organization known as theCorellian Resistance operated on the planet, fighting against the Empire. One of their members,Miru Nadrinakar, attempted to warn them of an upcoming crackdown.[44]SmugglerSana Starros made use of acrash pad on Corellia that she stocked with supplies, includingtea,[45] in3 ABY.[46]

Around that same time, Jaylen Barsha—by that time going by the name Jaylen Vrax—embarked on acampaign to finally unseat his brother Sliro, who by that time was adirector in theImperial Security Bureau and leader of the undercover crime syndicateZerek Besh, as revenge for their family and himself losing the fortune their Corellian industrial might would have offered. In the end, Vrax succeeded and was granted control of Zerek Besh by the Empire, only for Vrax himself to be killed shortly after by the freed ND-5.[38]

Rise of the New Republic[]

Following theBattle of Endor in4 ABY, thebounty hunterDengar tried to offerMercurial Swift the opportunity to work in a partnership. However, the youngerbounty hunter refused and the two men fought. Dengar warned Swift that theNew Republic, the successor to theAlliance to Restore the Republic, would be imposing bounties on bounty hunters and that bounty hunters needed to form a union to work together. However, Swift ignored his advice.[9]

Kiza, Shadow of the Acolytes of the Beyond, was recruited on Corellia.

Kiza, Shadow of the Acolytes of the Beyond, was recruited on Corellia.

In5 ABY, thedark side cultAcolytes of the Beyond recruited a low-class CorellianPantoran girl namedKiza. The Acolytes worshiped theSith and the dark side.[27] That year, the Acolytes staged anattack on Coronet City so that Kiza and a boy namedOblivion could infiltrate thePeace and Security Headquarters and steal alightsaber from the archives beneath the prison. In the process, Kizakilled numerousPeace and Security officers while OblivionsevereddetectiveErno'sblaster hand.[47]

In themonths leading up to theBattle of Jakku, there was closer cooperation between the New Republic and Corellianlaw enforcement. Coronet City Peace and Security began linking its records to the growing New Republic database. This allowedNorra Wexley and herteam totrack down the bounty hunter Swift.[27]

In9 ABY, theSanthe Shipyards were visited byAhsoka Tano and GeneralHera Syndulla while investigatingImperial Remnant activities, directed there by anHK-87 assassin droid. On Corellia, the two met withRegional SupervisorMyn Weaver, who showed them the facilities of his New Republic shipyard,Facility 301G, where Imperial naval assets are being refitted for theNew Republic Defense Fleet. Inside the shipyard's command center, Tano and Syndulla were attacked by former-Imperial workers while they questioned Weaver's actions.[14]

Tano broke out of the command center's window, descending to the factory floor, where she was challenged by the formerInquisitorMarrok, and the two dueled. Meanwhile, General Syndulla returned to thePhantom II and chased aSuper Star Destroyerhyperdrive being ferried into orbit. The confrontations ended with the hyperdrive escaping, and Marrok departing, whileNew Republic soldiers arrested several shipyard workers, including Weaver.[14]

TheFirst Ordertook over Corellia to claim its shipyards.[48] Afterwards, they established a presence on Corellia, beginning aplanetary occupation and nationalizing the Corellian Engineering Corporation. Soon after theBattle of Crait, theResistance launched amission to Corellia to free Resistance sympathizers from the First Order.Poe Dameron andFinn went undercover to the birthday party ofNifera Shu to steal a list of Resistance members, butstormtroopers raided the party, forcing the Resistance to flee. As they escaped the planet, they were able to freeRansolm Casterfo and several other prisoners, and stole more ships for the fledglingResistance navy.[20]

Around thetime of themission to Batuu, thesmugglerHondo Ohnaka led araid against a First Ordercargo train, using theMillennium Falcon to steal a shipment ofcoaxium from thetrain and deliver it to the Resistance.[24]

By35 ABY,[49] theCorellian Merchants' Guild was an influential guild inThieves' Quarter on the planetKijimi.[50] Following theBattle of Exegol, Corellia was inopen rebellion against the First Order.[51]

Behind the scenes[]

Corellia has appeared in several spin-off media, including bothStar Wars Legends andcanon works, before making its first onscreen appearance in the2018Star Wars Anthology filmSolo: A Star Wars Story.[10]

In the DVD commentary ofSolo, set decorateLee Sandales revealed that the film's crew pictured Corellia as theStar Wars version ofVenice,Italy, specifically an "industrial" Venice. Filming of Corellia scenes took place inSouthampton,England, most notably atFawley Power Station[52]. Additionally, during the film's development,Lucasfilm design supervisorJames Clyne was asked by the filmmakers to design a complete map of Corellia for the chase scene. Clyne did so, and he drew designs for other locations too, such as theDeath Star andCloud City.[53]
