Core ships were huge[4] autonomous[3]Trade Federationcommand vessels modified from[4] the central spheres of[3]Lucrehulk-class Battleships.[1] Core ships could detach and re-attach to the battleship ring.[6] A coreship's central diameter came to 696meters, or 2,283feet, and the vessel possessed landinglegs which retracted into thehull during travel inspace. Towards the top of the ship was acommand tower and asensorantenna.[4]
Core ships could carry vast numbers ofB1-series battle droids.[4] The ships hadair and land defenses. The Federation would use core ships forplanetary landings during theClone Wars,[3] and the craft were often used to host leaders of theConfederacy of Independent Systems.[4] Circularrepulsorlift pits were used as service areas for core ships.[10]

It was later destroyed by a Republicinfiltration.[13] In19 BBY, amodified core ship served as the venue for a meeting between theSeparatist Council andGeneralGrievous onUtapau, shortly before Grievous'final duel withJedi MasterObi-Wan Kenobi.[14]
In14 BBY,[15] the fifthyear of theImperial Era,MoffWilhuff Tarkin andSith LordDarth Vader led anImperialmission to Murkhana. While Tarkin was looking through aviewport on theCarrion Spike, it was impossible to tell the core ship repulsorlift pits frombomb craters.[10] By9 BBY,[16] the core ship of thePrimacy was left abandoned on the planetKoboh. It was used as a base by theBedlam Raiders, a group of marauders who used the battle droids present on the ship to increase their power.[17][8] AnotherSeparatist core ship was left crashed on a largeasteroid outside of theRed Honeycomb Zone and later became home to the formerAcolyte of the BeyondKiza.[9] In21 ABY,[18] the ship's forge overloaded during herduel withJedi MasterLuke Skywalker, melting down much ofKiza's droid army and leading to her own death. The exterior of the core ship, however, remained standing and was left abandoned once more.[9]
