Cordé, formerly known asCordyn, was ahandmaiden who servedSenatorPadmé Amidala in thedays leading up to theClone Wars. She was acting as a decoy when she waskilled in anattempt on Amidala's life byClawditebounty hunterZam Wesell.
Biography[]
Cordyn was ahumanfemaleborn on theplanetNaboo. She had asister who worked as a jeweler.[5] In32 BBY,[7] Cordyn was one of severalgirls considered byCaptainQuarsh Panaka of theRoyal Naboo Security Forces while he was looking for additionalhandmaidens for newly-electedQueen ofNabooPadmé Amidala, along withRabene Tonsort. Cordyn strongly resembled Amidala, but Panaka removed her from consideration because her poor hand-eye coordination meant she lacked skill with ablaster or other forms of combat.[5][4]
Fouryears later, after Amidala's two terms asmonarch ended, she was asked by QueenRéillata to serve as theChommell sector'sSenator in theGalactic Senate. She came to the conclusion that she would need additional handmaidens to act as decoys. Rabé suggested Cordyn, pointing out that her resemblance to the senator would make her an excellent decoy despite her poor fighting skills. Cordyn was tracked down bySaché on behalf of Amidala and eventually agreed to take on the role, taking on the name Cordé. Amidala also took on two other handmaidens,Versé andDormé.[5]
In thedays leading up to theoutbreak of theClone Wars, Amidala returned tothe galacticcapital ofCoruscant to take part in avote on the creation of aRepublicarmy in the wake of theSeparatist Crisis.[3]

Cordé moments before her death
On the orders of Amidala'schief of security,CaptainTypho, Cordé served as her decoy, traveling on the senator'sship posing as Amidala while the senatorpiloted aNaboo starfighter in disguise. Upon landing, Cordé descended theramp with her retinue, but was soon caught up in anexplosion that destroyed theship andkilled both her and six other people including Versé. The explosion was set up bybounty hunterZam Wesell, who had been hired byJango Fett toassassinate the senator.[3]
While Cordé lay dying, Amidala ran to her handmaiden's side. With her dying words, Cordé apologized for failing her mistress, though Amidala insisted that she had not.[3]
Legacy[]
Not long after Cordé's death her fellow handmaidenSabé stood in for Amidala in the senate while Amidala was on a mission. When Sabé attended a soirée atCantham House hosted byBail Organa the bodice of the dress she was wearing was held in place by pins designed by Cordé: invisible and entirely secure. Sabé then commented that the pins were 'very clever' as although she had just seen Dormé put the pins in she couldn't find them. Dormé then said that Cordé's whole family was very talented before her voice caught.[8] Sometime later, Amidala shared private tears for Cordé withDuja, another of her handmaidens.[9]
Personality and traits[]
Cordé hadbrownhair, browneyes and light skin.[3] Despite being slightly taller than Padmé Amidala, she was considered the closest physical match to her.[5]
Skills and abilities[]
Cordé was able to perfect Amidala's voice to the point that even a voice identifier couldn't tell the difference. However, she lacked combat ability, especially with a blaster,[5] due to poor hand-eye coordination.[4]
Behind the scenes[]
Cordé was played byNatalie Portman inside the cruiser and walking down the entry ramp, a stunt actress during the explosion that took her life, andVeronica Segura during her death.[10]
