Containment field

Acontainment field, also known as anenergy field,^[2] was a device used to holdprisoners whose origins were on theplanet onGeonosis, where its prototype was manufactured long before theClone Wars. The field would be created and maintained by means of disk-like generators bolted to the floor and to the ceiling directly above in the room.^[3]Such devices were designed for permanent installation and averaged 7,500credits.Gordarl Weaponsmiths'A1 Containment Field was one such model.^[4]

A detainee would hover over ameter, held inside theblue-colored field, and be required to wear magnetic cuffs that not only anchored the being in place but also monitored life signs, since a too-powerful field could stop one's heart or cause irreversiblebrain damage. In addition, the cuffs could be used astorture devices, capable of unleashing powerful electrical charges, and rotate the prisoner.^[3] AgainstForce-sensitives, the field served to disrupt the captive's connection tothe Force, preventing their escape.^[1][5]

SeparatistleaderCountDooku used aGeonosian containment field to holdObi-Wan Kenobi captive prior to theFirst Battle of Geonosis. Dooku attempted to sway the incapacitated Jedi over to thedark side of the Force, but Kenobi resisted Dooku's words and was sentenced toexecution in thePetranakiarena.^[1]

Thepirate kingHondo Ohnaka used containment fields to restrain his hostages, mostly notably doing so to Dooku and laterPadawanAhsoka Tano, when holding them for ransom. Tano tried to convince Ohnaka to release her, but Ohnaka responded by taunting her and refusing to give her anything to drink.^[5]

By14 BBY, theExecutrix was the onlycapital ship in theGalactic Empire'sNavy to have such a device.^[3]
