Comm/scan, also known asComScan orCom-scan, was a form ofsensor technology used to detect energy readings and approachingstarships. Both theGalactic Empire and theAlliance to Restore the Republic as well as their respective successors, theFirst Order and theResistance, made use of comm/scan technology.

History[]

"Comm/scan reports threeResurgent-class Star Destroyers and a larger capital ship. Unknown class, Dreadnought-sized. Preliminary estimated length seven thousand five hundred meters."

TheGalactic Empire utilized ComScan technology to detect thedeflector shield protectingEcho Base onHoth prior to theBattle of Hoth.[3]

TheAlliance to Restore the Republic utilized comm/scan technology onEndor. Shortly following theBattle of Endor,Hera Syndulla learnt that comm/scan detected a pair of survivingImperial TIE Fighters heading to attack theEwok village, and so took theGhost to intercept them.[4]

TheResistance had comm/scan technology onD'Qar, using it to determine the quantity and size ofstarships comprising theFirst Order'sattack force during theevacuation of D'Qar. The First Order later used comm/scan to home in on the signatures of emissions given off by fleeingU-55 orbital loadlifters attempting to reachCrait, andgunners were able to shoot down several of the escaping craft.[2]
