Chopper was aclone trooper that served in theGrand Army of the Republic during theClone Wars. Asoldier inClone Sergeant "Slick's"squad, Chopper andhis fellowtroopers were part of theJedi-ledarmy sent by theGalactic Republic todefend theplanetChristophsis from theConfederacy of Independent Systems. By then, Chopper had secretly begun collecting the fingers ofB1-series battle droids as war trophies, which he fashioned into a necklace. To the surprise and disgust of his comrades, Chopper's breach of protocol was discovered byClone CommanderCody andClone CaptainRex during their hunt for aclonespy in the ranks, although Chopper was adamant that he was not atraitor.

Slick, who was in fact the spy they were searching for, tried to pin his treachery on Chopper. When Chopper pushed back, thesergeant inadvertently revealed his knowledge of restricted information and attempted to escape from theRepublic base. Ultimately, the clone turncoat wascaptured and placed under arrest by his own squad, but not before he succeeded insabotaging much of the Republic'smilitary supplies.

History[]

Chopper: "Everyone else turned right, toward the barracks and the mess. You turned left, toward the command center. Where were you going, sir?"
Slick: "Obviously, the kid feels cornered."
Cody: "Sergeant! What did you mean, 'till the Jedi come back'? How did you know the Jedi were gone?"
Slick: "I really wish you hadn't noticed that, sir."

Separatist droids were able to take the clone troopers, including Chopper, by surprise using information provided by a spy in the Republic Army.

Like allclone troopers,[1] thetrooper who took on the nickname Chopper[3] wascloned on theplanetKamino from thegenetic material of thebounty hunterJango Fett, who served as theclone template for the entireGrand Army of the Republic.[1] During theClone Wars, theGalactic Republic deployed aJedi-ledarmy to theplanetChristophsis in22 BBY,[4] with orders todefend the world from thedroid army of theConfederacy of Independent Systems.[5] Attached to thesquad led byClone SergeantSlick, Chopper was among thetroops that the Republic sent to theChristophsianhomeworld. At that point, Chopper's contempt forbattle droids led him to collect the fingers ofB1s as war trophies from the battlefield, which he then fashioned into a necklace. Chopper kept his actions secret, however, as his conduct was a breach of protocol in theRepublic Military.[3]

Chopper's squad was withJedi GeneralObi-Wan Kenobi andClone CommanderCody when they attempted to ambush theSeparatist Droid Army. To their surprise, thedroids ambushed them instead, forcing the clones to retreat to theirbase on Christophsis. As they withdrew from the battle, one of Chopper's squadmates, trooper "Gus" managed to tear off the head of aT-series tactical droid. An analysis of thedroid's memory files revealed that the Separatists were warned about the Republic's strategy, leading theclone officers to suspect that a clone was, in fact, spying for the enemy. While thegenerals Kenobi andAnakin Skywalker investigated behind enemy lines,Commander Cody searched for the spy at the base with the aid ofClone CaptainRex.[3]

Their investigation led them to the barracks that housedSergeant Slick's squad. Rex and Cody interrogated the clones individually, each one providing an alibi to confirm their allegiance to the Republic. When they came to Chopper, the clone hid his droid finger necklace and claimed he immediately went to the mess hall after returning to the base. His alibi was flawed, however, asSketch revealed that Chopper had not joined them in the mess hall until much later. As a result, he was forced to reveal his war trophy to the cloneofficers. Slick quickly tried to use the violation as proof Chopper was the spy, only for Slick's role as the traitor to be revealed,[3] while Chopper was proven innocent.[1]

Personality and traits[]

Chopper was ahumanmale clone of Jango Fett, who was 1.83meters (6feet) tall. He hadblackhair,[1] which he kept shaved. Chopper's lefteye was brown, while his right eye was pale yellow and he had tan skin.[3]

Chopper was a clone with an odd personality[6] and admitted to being a little weird.[1] He held a grudge against the battle droids of the Separatist Army, believing that the machines owed him something. To fuel his contempt for his mechanical adversaries, Chopper stole fingers from droid wreckage on the battlefield[3] as trophies.[1] He additionally attempted to hide his crime by both sequestering himself when making a droid finger necklace and using a false alibi to mask his whereabouts during Rex and Cody's interrogation. He was even willing to lie to his commanding officers to hide his violation of protocol, though he was not successful in covering up the truth. In the opinion of fellow trooper Gus, Chopper's actions represented a form of deficiency.[3]

When his trustworthiness and character were questioned by Sergeant Slick, Chopper appealed to Rex and Cody, his commanding officers, to attempt to make his voice heard over his sergeant's accusations. When Slick continued to put him on the spot, however, the cornered Chopper rounded on his own sergeant and was quick to put the spotlight on him, aggressively questioning the officer's own whereabouts. The trooper's pursuits played a key role in revealing Slick's role as a Separatist spy.[3]

Skills and abilities[]

As a clone trooper, Chopper was skilled in armed and unarmed combat as had a knowledge of military tactics.[1]
