Abrigade was a large military infantry formation. TheGrand Army of the Republic made use of brigades in its unit structure as massive formations ofclone troopers. Two entire brigades, for example,[2] were made up of many individualbattalions.[3] Furthermore, the Republic organized its personnel within administrative brigades, such as itsspecial forces under theSpecial Operations Brigade,[4] and youngclone cadets into variousClone Youth Brigades.[5] Standardclone troopers organized into brigades were led by aJedi Commander.SenatorMon Mothma, serving asChancellor of theAlliance to Restore the Republic, believed that a single brigade of clone troopers could penetrate aplanet's orbital defenses and conquer the world.[6]
TheConfederacy of Independent Systems utilized maintenance brigades within theCIS Navy. These brigades were deployed after theSubjugator-class heavy cruiserMalevolence was critically damaged during theBattle of the Kaliida Nebula.[7] TheBattle of Utapau at the end of the war saw two full clone brigades,[2] including personnel from the7th Sky Corps,[8] deployed against the CIS.[2]
During theImperial Era, the rebellious factions against theGalactic Empire utilized the designation, such as theMaya Pei Brigade.[9] The Empire itself also included brigades within theImperial Army, withone such formation being under thecommand ofColonelBrenna.[1] A resistance group allied with theRebel Alliance during theCoruscant civil war went by the name ofAnklebiter Brigade.[10]Years later, the Empire's successor state, theFirst Order, also utilized brigades, withone brigade being led by aFirst Order major.[1]
