Bodyguards were beings hired to protect someone. Many people inthe galaxy, fromPalpatine down toJabba the Hutt, had bodyguards.
Bodyguards were often hired to protect high-risk heads of big corporations, such asSan Hill of theInterGalactic Banking Clan. Mostcrime lords hired bodyguards, as they were big targets for anassassin hired by a rival. In the days of theOld Republic,Jedi often served as bodyguards forsenators or theSupreme Chancellor, up until theClone Wars, when theSenate Guard (later theRed Guard) took over the protection of the Chancellor.Grievous, leader of theCISdroid army, hadIG-100 MagnaGuards act as his bodyguards. During the reign of theEmpire,stormtroopers could often be found protecting various officials of the Empire. Also,Gamorreans were often hired as bodyguards.
Several members of theNoghrispecies served as bodyguards for members of theGalactic Empire andNew Republic. One Noghri bodyguard,Rukh, wasGrand AdmiralThrawn's bodyguard before Rukh killed Thrawn during theBattle of Bilbringi. After the Noghri discovered that Leia Organa Solo was the daughter ofDarth Vader, she was frequently protected by Noghri bodyguards includingKhabarakh andMobvekhar.
