Blaster cannons were commonly fitted aboardatmospheric vehicles;[ 3] however, a portable shoulder-fired version was also used to inflict devastation on vehicles, troops, and structures.[ 1]

Blaster cannons derived their energy from power packs of ionized cryogenic cells. Unlikelaser cannons , blaster cannons could be set at various levels of damage, ranging from stun to full power. There existed several designations of blaster cannon strength, including light blaster cannons, medium blaster cannons and heavy blaster cannons.[ 4] Blaster cannons were commonly less powerful than laser cannons, though were quite effective during atmospheric combat, especially against ground troops and vehicles.[ 3]
Variants of the portable blaster cannon included theZ-6 rotary blaster cannon , theBB-23 heavy blaster cannon , and theCR-1 blaster cannon .

Notable military vehicles that utilized blaster cannons in their arsenal included the military versionSeraph -class urban landspeeder produced bySoroSuub Corporation ,[ 3] All Terrain Scout Transports , the74-Z speeder bikes of theGalactic Empire , theC-9979 landing craft produced byHaor Chall Engineering , as well as theTIE/IN interceptor . TheArakyd Industries Viper probe droid was similarly equipped with a blaster cannon.[ 5]
Certain largebattle droids had blaster cannons built into their chassis. Examples of these included theDSD1 dwarf spider droid ,[ 1] theA-DSD advanced dwarf spider droid , and theLM-432 crab droid .[ 6]
The portable version of the blaster cannon was used byspacetroopers .Bounty hunter droid IG-88 was also proficient with this weapon.[ 7] TheYVH-Series battle droid used a variable-powered blaster cannon as its primary weapon.[ 8]
