Chronology

Timeline

"Blade Squadron" is a two-part short story written byDavid J. Williams andMark S. Williams that appeared inStar Wars Insider 149 andStar Wars Insider 150. It was inspired by artwork depicting an unused battle scene fromStar Wars: Episode VIReturn of the Jedi, and the story focuses on asquadron ofB-wingstarfighters on a suicide mission during theBattle of Endor.

Blade Squadron is the firstInsider short story, and the first story outside of the films andThe Clone WarsTV series, that is part of the newcanon,[6] as defined since theApril 25,2014 reboot.[7] The story was later reprinted onStarWars.com[8][9] with some slight differences.

Plot summary[]

The Battle of Endor is near. In preparation for the up-coming battle, Blade Squadron has recently been refitted with the newA/SF-01 B-Wing Assault Starfighter - more commonly referred to as the "B-Wing." Wing Commander Adon Fox must lead Blade Squadron on a suicide mission against the Devastator in support of Rebel Command's overall battle plan to engage and destroy theDeath Star II, which is currently under construction and in orbit around Endor's moon.

Development[]

The two-part storyBlade Squadron was published as the monthly short fiction of the149th and150th issues of theStar Wars Insider magazine. The announcement of the newLucasfilm canon policy onApril 25,2014 was released between the publication of the two issues, leaving the state of the short story uncertain. InStar Wars Insider 150, it was announced thatBlade Squadron did belong to the new canon, making it the first prose work and story in general to be considered as canon outside from the movies and the TV seriesStar Wars: The Clone Wars.
