Berchest was a major tourist destination, and later a tradingplanet, in theAnthos sector of theInner Rim. It was an extremely beautiful world whose highlysalineseas and strong tides result in immensecrystal deposits on the planet's shores that the nativeBerchestians sculpted into entirecities. One of these cities wasCalius saj Leeloo, or the City of Glowing Crystal. It was carved entirely from one massive crystal that was created over the centuries from salt deposits from the adjacentLeefari Sea and was considered one of theTwenty Wonders of the Galaxy.

The planet suffered a majorgroundquake in22 BBY. It wasliberated from theConfederacy of Independent Systems byFreedom's Sons in21 BBY. Though theClone Wars andGalactic Civil War cut into the planet's tourism, the planet was able to leverage its position on several important trade routes and turn itself into an important trade nexus. During theThrawn campaign, Berchest was well behindImperial lines, andGrand AdmiralThrawn used the world as a red herring for theNew Republic's attempt to follow deployment of his newclone forces. It was ruled byGovernorRaccyx Staffa.

Behind the scenes[]

The PC gameStar Wars: Rebellion mistakenly places Berchest in theFakir sector of theCore Worlds. The Fakir sector is actually located in the Inner Rim.
