Abattle between theGalactic Empire and theRebel Alliance took place in^[1] theOuter Rim^[3]worldMordal'scity ofMaborn^[1] in4 ABY.^[2] TheBallast family became trapped in the area of contention between the warring sides, which were stationed on opposite sides of Maborn. Thedaughter of the civilianCorwin Ballast and hiswife,Lynnta, became immobilized in a street, and the rescue attempt made by herparents proved unsuccessful when the pair were wounded byblaster fire fromImperial andrebel forces sides prior to reaching their child.^[1]

The battle on Mordal ended without a decisive victor, with the combatants choosing to halt hostilities. Ballast, grieved upon learning Lynnta and his daughter haddied in the firefight, decided to depart Mordal and travel to^[1] theInner Rim planet^[4]Jakku, a place he felt war would not breach.^[1]
