Battle of Kamino
Conflict
Outcome
TheBattle of Kamino, also known as theRaid on Kamino or theAttack on Kamino, was fought during theClone Wars between theJedi-ledGrand Army of theGalactic Republic and theDroid Army of theConfederacy of Independent systems. The Separatists launched the battle as one of their key campaigns during the war, hoping to captureKamino and eliminate thecloning facilities inTipoca City—resulting in theBattle of Tipoca City, also known as thedefense of Tipoca City—in order to try to deprive the Republic from creating moreclone troopers for their army. The Separatists, led byGeneralGrievous andAsajj Ventress, were repelled by the Republic. However, the attack on Kamino proved the Republic had intelligence leaks and that every Republic planet was vulnerable to assault.
Prelude[]
- "The clone planet of Kamino will be a dangerous target."
"Just make sure you hold up your half of the mission. We must stop the production of new clones if we are to win this war." - ―Asajj Ventress and GeneralGrievous[2]
TheConfederacy of Independent Systems had attempted an assault on Kamino earlier in theClone Wars. However, the attempt was stopped by thedestruction ofRishi Station.[6]

Kenobi, Skywalker, and clone reinforcements arrive on Kamino.
The following yearJediGeneralsAnakin Skywalker andObi-Wan Kenobi intercepted a transmission between ConfederateGeneralGrievous andassassinAsajj Ventress. They were planing an attack onKamino. Thus, Skywalker, Obi-Wan,CommanderCody,CaptainRex and thetroopers of the501st Legion were then sent to reinforce theblockade and GeneralShaak Ti's[2]garrison[4] stationed at thecloning facilities inTipoca City.[2]
During thistime, Ventress and herforces were hiding in the deepoceans of Kamino aboard aTrident-class assault ship. There they awaited Grievous's arrival.[2]
The battle[]
Space distraction[]
- "I'm going to press the attack, Master."
"No, Anakin. Wait! It's too easy. Not even Grievous would attack so recklessly."
"Master, the battle's up here in space, not down there."
"The debris from the destroyed Separatist ships is the key." - ―Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi[2]

Grievous's frigates endure extensive damage to deploy the disguised re-entry capsules.
When Grievous'sfleet approached Kamino, the blockade underAdmiralWullf Yularen was ready to hold the line against the Confederatefleet. Grievous'sT-series tactical droidTV-94B reported that all ships were inposition and the Confederate fleet attacked. Skywalker andBroadside then led thefightersquadrons against the fleet. Grievous sacrificed his largertransports to protect hiscommand ship. However, there was more to this strategy, as the debris from the destroyed ships fell into orbit and into the oceans of Kamino. This debris actually containedassault craft to be used to attack the city. When the debris fell into the ocean, Ventress ordered heraqua droids to assemble the assault crafts.[2]
However, General Kenobi suspected that debris was a clue. So, Kenobi took aKamino sub down into the ocean to investigate. There, he discovered the aquadroids assembling the assault crafts. Kenobi was attacked by four of the aqua droids, and then forced to abandon the submarine. Kenobi was subsequently saved by anaiwha.[2]
Assault on Tipoca City[]
- "Keep playing with your droids. I'll handle breaking into the DNA room."
"Shall I provide you with a droid escort?"
"My dear General, there's nothing you have that I could want." - ―Asajj Ventress and General Grievous, separating to complete their mission objectives[2]

Tipoca City under a full scale assault by Separatist forces.
The Trident assaultships then came out of the ocean and attacked TipocaCity. The aqua droids under Ventress led the attack against theclone troopers underCommanderColt and his fellowARC trooperHavoc. General Grievous then landed with hisbattle droids. Afterkilling Colt, Ventress and Grievous discussed their plans. While Grievous would attack the clonebarracks, Ventress would secure a sample of the clones'DNA.[2]

The fight between Grievous and Kenobi ended on one of the platforms in Tipoca City.
During this time, troopersFives andEcho were acting assnipers. They were then givengrenades by99 after Havoc was killed. They later found a group ofclone cadets and took them back to the barracks. Once there, they were joined by Captain Rex and Commander Cody. Together, they prepared to fight Grievous'sforces. When battle droids were about to enter the barracks, Cody, Rex and the others were able to attack them. Grievous was then confronted by Kenobi and the twodueled. They fought until they got to a platform where a Trident assault ship destroyed the platform. Grievous thought Kenobi had fallen to his death, but was actually saved once again by an aiwha.[2]

Ventress Force pushes Skywalker and the clone troopers.
Ventress then entered theDNA room and retrieved a DNA sample. However, she was confronted by Skywalker. The two then fought until Ventress lost the sample and was surrounded by clone troopers. As Skywalker was about to let his troopers execute Ventress, Grievous came in aflight pod. Ventress boarded the Pod and retreated.[2]
During this time, Rex, Cody, their troops, and the clonecadets were able to destroy the battle droids, though 99 was killed in the crossfire. SeveralARF troopers then destroyed the last Tridentassault ship.[2]
Aftermath[]

Captain Rex and Commander Cody revealed Fives and Echo's promotion to be ARC troopers.
For their actions during the battle, Echo and Fives were promoted to ARC troopers.[2]Republic officerWilhuff Tarkin was decorated at the battle.[7]
Despite the Republic victory, the facilities on Kamino suffered widespread damage and intense fighting, although they were able to remain operational. Grievous's attack on the planet also proved that any Republic planet was vulnerable to Separatist assault, and the Republic had intelligence leaks. The attack proved to be a morale boost for the Confederacy.[3]
