Biography[]
In service to the Republic[]

Coburn commands the Republic rescue fleet from his Star Destroyer at Lola Sayu.
Ahuman male,[1] Barton Coburn was a part of theGalactic Republic Navy during theClone Wars, serving as anAdmiral.[3] During the War, he served under the command ofJedi GeneralPlo Koon.[5] Admiral Coburn served with distinction during the many battles he fought in the Clone Wars. Coburn was in command of the Republictask force sent toretrieve thestrike team that freedCaptainWilhuff Tarkin andJedi MasterEven Piell from theCitadel onLola Sayu.[3] He also commanded the operation torescue theTogrutaslaves from theZygerrian slaving facility onKadavo. Captaining theArquitens-class light cruiser[5]Hand of Justice,[6] Coburn waited until Koon and thestarfighters eliminated the turrets before moving in, maneuvered the ship underneath the Zygerrian facility and helped to rescue the Togrutas.[5]
Under the Empire[]
- "And what happens if they become aware of what's happening and take up arms against us?"
- ―Barton Coburn voices his concern with a potential clone rebellion[4]

Admiral Coburn defended the clone troopers' skill and fierce loyalty.
Following Koon’s death and therise of theGalactic Empire in the Republic's stead when the War ended, Coburn continued to serve under the new government and remained a high-ranking respected Admiral.[7] Around18 BBY,[8] he joinedGovernor Tarkin at asummit at theRaven's Peak onEriadu alongside two other fellow Clone War veteransGeneralHurst Romodi of theImperial Army and Tarkin’s rivalCommanderOrson Krennic of theImperial Weapons Division, andChief ScientistDoctorRoyce Hemlock of theAdvanced Science Division of theImperial Science Bureau.[4] Coburn was considered one of the Empire's high-level leaders.[9] When Doctor Hemlock spoke about his and the Advanced Science Division's progress on the previouslyKaminoan-supervisedcloning project which was of great importance toGalactic EmperorSheev Palpatine, using decommissionedclone troopers as test subjects to aid in his research, Coburn voiced an objection as he shared the unease Romodi had but for a different reason, referencing their powerful skill and loyalty during the War since he served with them for many years. Tarkin told him the clones had shown a concerning level of individuality under the leadership of theJedi Order. Coburn then posed his fear of the clones taking up arms against the Empire if they were to discover Hemlock'sImperial cloning program, to which he warned the Admiral some already had and Tarkin promised the rogue clones would be dealt with swiftly and unilaterally to quell any threat of a clone uprising before ordering Krennic to enlighten them to the status ofProject Stardust.[4]

Coburn was secured in the conference room with the other members of the summit.
As the summit continued, insurgents led by Clone War veteran CommanderSaw Gerrera infiltrated Raven's Peak and placed thermal explosives, which were detonated and destroyed much of the compound.[4] Coburn and the others were secured in the conference room with Hemlock being the only one to believe in Tarkin as the chaos happened around them and Gerrera and the surviving forces escaped according to the team ofLieutenantMaylur. Unfortunately Coburn’s fear came to a much worse reality a few months later when the rogueClone Force 99 killed Doctor Hemlock and several troopers of the Advanced Science Division and caused various wings of hisbase to sustain heavy damage due to releasing theZillo Beast which caused Tarkin to posthumously punish the brilliant officer by ordering CaptainBragg to shutter the base indefinitely and redistribute all funding and remaining assets to Project Stardust when he went there to give his assistance insistingly.[10]
Personality and traits[]
- "If I may, I served with the clones for many years. They are cunning warriors. Loyal to the end. Are we willing to just dismiss them out of hand?"
- ―Barton Coburn[4]

Glyn Dillon (@glyn__dillon) onInstagram (post):"I sometimes get asked, on Twitter, about certain things to do with the details of Star Wars costumes, especially Imperial costumes. I try to answer as best I can but I can't always remember… 'ranking' is something that crops up every now and then ...so I've been meaning to post this on here for a while. My co-designer, David Crossman is a military expert, much like John Mollo was, so this is something he put together, after studying all the OT films and working out what he thought John Mollo was doing with the Imperial ranking. It was devised for Rogue One... and if there are any Imperials in Solo, we would've have used this system again... But obviously I can't say if we did 😜 I hope it's useful for all the cosplayers and costumers out there"(backup link)
- ↑Per the reasoninghere, the seventh and eighth episodes ofThe Bad Batch Season 2, "The Clone Conspiracy" and "Truth and Consequences," can be placed in18 BBY. Therefore, all Season 2 episodes proceeding "The Clone Conspiracy" occur between19 BBY, which features the end ofThe Bad Batch Season 1 according toStar Wars: Timelines, and 18BBY. TheGalactic Empire, theformation of whichStar Wars: Timelines dates to 19 BBY, sentMayday's squad toBarton IV over ayear prior to the events of the twelfth episode, "The Outpost." As it occurs over a year into theImperial Era and is set shortly after the events of "Truth and Consequences," the events of "The Outpost" occur around 18 BBY. Following that logic, the ninth through eleventh episodes ("The Crossing" through "Metamorphosis") are also set around 18 BBY because they occur between the events of "Truth and Consequences" and "The Outpost." Finally, all season 2 episodes set after "The Outpost" occur shortly after its events, thereby placing those episodes around 18 BBY as well.
