In22 BBY during theClone Wars,GeneralGrievous of theConfederacy of Independent Systemsattempted to captureOutpost 716 from theGalactic Republic. In the end, Grievous's attack failed. As theSith LordsDarth Sidious andDarth Tyranus, the puppet masters of the war, still wanted the outpost to fall under Separatist control, Tyranus laterdispatched hisassassinAsajj Ventress on her own mission to Outpost 716, which ended with Ventress successfully destroying the command center.
The attempt[]

General Grievous (pictured) commanded the effort to take Outpost 716.
In22 BBY,[2] during theClone Wars between theConfederacy of Independent Systems and theGalactic Republic,GeneralGrievous[1]—a brilliant tactician, powerful combatant, and effectiveJedi killer who served as theSupreme Commander of the Separatist Droid Army[3]—attempted to captureOutpost 716, a posting and command center used by the Republic. The well-defended command center was staffed by a group ofclone troopers and operated under the command ofJedi GeneralMayanka Catrine, who was joined by herPadawan,[1]Jedi Commander[4]Agustin. However, theSith LordsDarth Sidious andDarth Tyranus[1]—who controlled the war in their respective public personas ofSupreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine of the Republic and ConfederateHead of StateCount Dooku[3]—wanted to see the outpost taken out of service via a Separatist attack. To that end, Grievous launched his effort against Outpost 716. However, despite all of Grievous's skills, the assault ultimately failed.[1]
Aftermath[]
- "I defeated their plans. Now you shall grant me the title ofSith Lord!"
"No.You destroyed their outpost but you did not defeatthem. You mustprove yourself worthy."
"I havemore than done so. Even Grievous couldn't—"
"I will tell you when you have done so." - ―Asajj Ventress and Darth Tyranus after her successful plan[1]

Count Dooku dispatched his personal assassin Asajj Ventress to capture Outpost 716 after General Grievous's attack failed.
Due to her own skills and reasoning that she was expendable, Tyranus later dispatched his personalassassin andapprentice,Asajj Ventress, in anotherattempt to capture Outpost 716. Although Sidious doubted her ability to take a base even Grievous could not capture, Dooku promised that the command center would soon fall in aholographic communication with Sidious aboard hisPunworcca 116-class interstellar sloop. In fact, Ventress had already captured and destroyed the base thanks to a deceptive plan: she allowed herself to be captured and only struck when she was certain theJedi had departed for anothermission.[1]
Ventress returned to Tyranus immediately after his discussion with Sidious, demanding to be anointed aSith Lord by citing that she had succeeded where even Grievous had failed. Instead, Tyranus ordered her tofind aJedi artifact to prove herself. During herinvestigation on theMoon of Staggec in theOuter Rim Territories, she learned that, once more, Grievous had been Tyranus'sfirst choice in carrying out the mission, as the general had been previously tasked with locating the item.[1]
