"The current debate stems over which zero-point year-notation system is the best, with the Great ReSynchronization of 13 years ago and the Ruusan Reformation of a millennium ago being popular contenders."

Behind the scenes[]

The1994 reference bookA Guide to the Star Wars Universe, Second Edition, Revised and Expanded originally established that the end of theClone Wars took place in 35 BBY.[23] This date was later used byWest End Games as the zero point for the in-universecalendar in use in theGalaxywide NewsNets articles of theStar Wars Adventure Journals published in the 90s.[24] As later sources placed the Clone Wars one decade later,[25]Pablo Hidalgo'sHoloNet News eventuallyretconned the year 35 BBY as theGreat ReSynchronization to justify its use as a calendar zero point.[9][2][3]

  4. The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, Vol. I, p. 363 ("Great Peace of the Republic") establishes that theGreat Peace of the Republic lasted between theRuusan campaign and thebeginning of theClone Wars, whichThe New Essential Chronology dates to1000 BBY and22 BBY, respectively.
  5. SWTOR mini Galactic History onThe Old Republic'sofficial website(article) (backup link) dates theTho Yor Arrival, as described inStar Wars: Dawn of the Jedi 0, to theyearBTC 32,800 of thecalendar based on the date of the signing of theTreaty of Coruscant. Since the difference between that calendar and theGalactic Standard Calendar—based on the date of theBattle of Yavin—was 3,653 years per the reasoninghere, the Tho Yor Arrival must have taken place in the year 36,453 BBY of the latter dating system. Therefore, the difference between the Galactic Standard Calendar and the dating system based on the Tho Yor Arrival that is featured inDawn of the Jedi: Into the Void must be 36,453 years.
  6. Star Wars: The Old Republic Encyclopedia places theTreaty of Coruscant, which served as the zero point of acalendar adopted by theGalactic Senate following the conclusion of theGreat Galactic War perSWTOR mini Galactic History onThe Old Republic'sofficial website(article) (backup link), in theyear3653 BBY of theGalactic Standard Calendar, which was based around the date of theBattle of Yavin. Thus, the difference between the two dating systems is 3,653 years.
  7. The New Essential Chronology establishes that the zero point of thecalendar introduced byTarsus Valorum was theRuusan Reformations. The book places that event in theyear of1000 BBY of theGalactic Standard Calendar—which was based around the date of theBattle of Yavin—therefore establishing a difference ofone thousand years between the two dating systems.
  8. Per the reasoninghere, theBattle of Yavin, the zero point in theGalactic Standard Calendar perThe New Essential Chronology, can be placed in 35:3:8 under theGreat ReSynchronization dating system, thereby confirming the placement of the division between each Galactic Standard Calendaryear as the thirdmonth in the Great ReSynchronization year. Thus, there is a two-month, seven day gap between the two dating systems, with the first two months of a GrS year being the last two of the preceding Galactic Standard Calendar year, and there is a total difference of 35 years and 2 months between the two systems.
