TheBattle of Dathomir was an engagement in20 BBY, the thirdyear of theClone Wars, that resulted in theannihilation of theNightsisters ofDathomir. Seeking revenge for a previousassassination attempt concocted by his formeragentAsajj Ventress andMotherTalzin of the Nightsisters,CountDooku sanctioned an invasion of Dathomir to eliminate the entire clan ofwitches.GeneralGrievous led theSeparatist Droid Army's assault, bringing a fullfleet from theConfederate Navy to strike at Dathomir. After ordering abombing run to dislodge the Nightsisters from theirfortress, Grievous landed with hisbattle droidtroops and dispatched them tobesiege thewitches' village. Undeterred, Ventress led her fellowwarriors on an offensive against thedroids, pushing through the jungles to Grievous's position. After the elder witchDakaresurrected the fallensisters of theArmy of the Dead, Ventress took herundead reinforcements to obliterate aDefoliator Deployment Tank sent in by Grievous, then headed directly for the droid landing site.
Arriving at the Separatistlanding craft, Ventress challenged Grievous to singlelightsaber combat, naming total victory in the battle as the prize. Although nearly defeated in the ensuingduel, Grievous had his battle droids attack Ventress and herarmy, with the Nightsister retreating from the battlefield after being injured byblasterfire. Meanwhile, Talzin usedvoodoomagic to set a plague upon Dooku, who was monitoring the battle from hispalace onSerenno, to pressure him into calling off his attack. With Dooku unable to defend himself from Talzin'smagic, Grievous was ordered to target Talzin instead of Ventress, and he personally led histroops to the Nightsister village'sHidden Cave. Talzin relinquished her magic beforeescaping, but Grievous's murder of Daka terminated the spell sustaining the Army of the Dead. Without the aid of their zombie sisters, the remaining Nightsisters were outnumbered and massacred.
