TheBattle of Ryloth took place in22 BBY on theTwi'lekhomeworld ofRyloth during theClone Wars. Seeking to steal the treasures of fellowSeparatist Council memberPassel Argente while claiming another victory for theConfederacy of Independent Systems,Techno UnionForemanWat Tambor invaded theplanet and executed the subjugation of the Twi'lek people. Tambor's forces were met with early resistance fromGalactic Republic military units andTwi'lek resistance fighters led byJedi GeneralIma-Gun Di andGeneralCham Syndulla, respectively. With the Confederacy's annihilation of the Republicfleet defending Ryloth, supply lines to the planet were severed, leaving the Twi'lek population without food or medical supplies and the Republic forces stranded without reinforcements. Although Di and histroops were allkilled, the Twi'lek freedom fighters were saved by thetimely arrival of Republic relief supplies fromToydaria. After being defeated by the Confederacy atCazne, Syndulla led his compatriots into hiding.
Finalizing defenses for his newly captured world,Emir Tambor placedCaptainMar Tuuk in command of theConfederate blockade guarding the planet andT-series tactical droidTX-20 in charge of theproton cannons in thecity ofNabat, while he made headquarters for himself in the conqueredcapital ofLessu. After receiving pleas for assistance from Ryloth'ssenator,Orn Free Taa, theJedi High Council dispatchedJedi GeneralAnakin Skywalker and hisPadawan,Jedi CommanderAhsoka Tano, to eliminate the Separatistblockade and make way forclone trooper forces from theGrand Army of the Republic to land on and liberate Ryloth. Despite heavy losses to their fleet, Skywalker and Tano were able to break the blockade, allowing Republictroop transports—commanded byHigh Jedi GeneralsObi-Wan Kenobi andMace Windu—to safely enter theRyloth system. Once Kenobi,Clone CommanderCody, and the RepublicunitGhost Company had destroyed Nabat's proton cannons, Windu was able to land with histransports.
En route to retake Lessu, Windu,CloneCommanderCC-6454, andLightning Squadron suffered losses in a battle with Separatisttanks, leading Windu to enlist the help of Syndulla and his freedom fighters. After Tambor began afirebombing campaign of the Twi'lek villages, Syndulla finally set aside his previous quarrels with Taa and joined forces with Windu and the Republic. Once Windu andARF troopersRazor andStak were able to activate Lessu'splasma bridge, the only access to the city, the combined forces of LightningSquadron and freedom fighters entered the city and routed the Confederacy in what became known as theBattle of Lessu. Tambor's own tactical droid,TA-175, escaped with the Emir'sshuttle and left him stranded, and Windu was able to capture Tambor.
Following the liberation of Lessu, Skywalker and Tano were left in command of the operations against the remaining Confederate holdouts on the planet. The two Jedi led the501st Legion through the ruined city ofResdin, gradually clearing out thedroid forces that were encamped there. During the conflict,Clone CaptainRex andClone SergeantBoomer were captured by thebounty hunterCad Bane, who was on the run after stealing theGravitic Core, a part of SeparatistscientistKul Teska'snewly developed superweapon.
