SpongeBob SquarePants 4-D Ride is aSpongeBob SquarePants amusement ride. The ride is a3D motion simulator, where riders sit in a 3D theater with chairs that rock and tilt with the 3D movie. The ride debuted onMay 10,2003 at theAction Theater inParamount Parks locations, and would later be featured in various locations worldwide, with some still open today. The movie focuses onSpongeBob retrieving a pickle stolen by arobotic Patrick.

Characters[]

Synopsis[]

The ride begins with a recreation of the intro sequence from the show, with Painty the Pirate about to sing the theme song as usual, but he instead pops out of the painting and throws the riders intoBikini Bottom. The audience ends up in theKrusty Krab, where SpongeBob welcomes them and shows them how to make aKrabby Patty by pointing at the ingredients with his spatula. When preparing a Krabby Patty for Sandals, SpongeBob accidentally loses the last pickle he had. The pickle bounces away, then Patrick, on a pogo stick, steals it. SpongeBob, while confused at Patrick's apparent betrayal, sets out to rescue the pickle, bringing the riders along with him on hisbubble bike.

SpongeBob rides out into town, wreaking havoc in the process, and eventually rides throughJellyfish Fields, where he is stung by a horde of jellyfish. Suddenly, SpongeBob falls intoRock Bottom, where a fish bites the bubble bike and pops it. The pop's force hurdles SpongeBob into the air, landing in theChum Bucket.

It is revealed that the real Patrick was kidnapped by Plankton, who used a robotic Patrick called thePat-Bot 3000 to steal the pickle. The robot pursues SpongeBob, only to be unplugged by Patrick, who is looking for an outlet for his toaster. Plankton is then crushed by his robot and SpongeBob recovers the pickle.

Sandals enters the Chum Bucket to eat his patty, but it turns out that he's allergic to pickles, causing him to swell up and explode. His head, eyes, and mouth land on his shoes and he runs out of the restaurant, at which SpongeBob laughs, ending the ride.

Trivia[]

General[]

  • Some versions of the ride have stationary seats and are just 3D rather than 4D, especially the versions formerly located at Cedar Fair (now Six Flags) parks that were formerly Paramount parks.
  • This ride was replaced at the Nickelodeon Suites Resort in Orlando by "SpongeBob SquarePants 4-D: The Great Jelly Rescue!"
  • Multiple versions of this attraction were at several Cedar Fair theme parks, including Kings Island, Kings Dominion, Carowinds, California's Great America, and Canada's Wonderland. All of these parks were owned byParamount Pictures at the time of the ride's opening until Cedar Fair Entertainment Company purchased them in2006.
  • It appeared at Dollywood in summer 2006. There was also a shop close to the entrance of the ride selling SpongeBob merchandise.
    • It also appeared in Flamingo Land in the UK.
  • Painty the Pirate's "Are you ready?" phrase has him saying "Good! In you go!" instead of "Ooh..."
  • The movie was also shown in other languages:
    • In Germany, it was shown at Movie Park Germany, where there are also other exclusive SpongeBob rides. It was replaced in 2008, with Shrek 4D.
    • In Italy, it was shown at Gardaland.
    • It also appeared inWalibi Belgium.
  • The places where this ride is still open:

Errors[]

  • Right before the camera crashes into the Krusty Krab, the order of the 122 Conch Street houses is wrong.Squidward's house is on the left,SpongeBob's house is on the middle, andPatrick's house is on the right, when usually, Patrick's house is on the left, Squidward's house is on the middle, and SpongeBob's house is on the right.
  • Like many episodes, the Chum Bucket is not across the street from the Krusty Krab.
  • When the camera crashes into the Krusty Krab, it ends up into the back of the kitchen, when it should have crashed into the dining room or the front of the kitchen because it was crashing through the front of the Krusty Krab, not the back.
  • TheGalley Grub reads "Krabby Pattie" instead of "Krabby Patty." It also reads "Krabby Conco" instead of "Krabby Combo."
  • When SpongeBob leaves the Krusty Krab on the bubble bike, downtown is to the right of the Krusty Krab. However, in the beginning of the ride, Downtown Bikini Bottom is down an intersection, which to the left of the Krusty Krab.
  • Sandals is differently colored from his series counterpart.
