Appearance
The Urchins Cap is a black cap with a flat brim and a whiteInkling symbol on the front. On top of the brim is a shiny black and gold sticker with the Skalop logo and on the back of the cap is a rectangular patch with a squid-like emblem in white, black, and red. Both the brim and the border around the Inkling symbol change to match the color of the wearer'sink. The hat is worn at a slight angle. InSplatoon 3, the cap can be rotated to instead face backwards using theAdjust Gear feature.

The Urchins Cap comes withBomb Range Up as the primaryability. As a 1-star item, the Urchins Cap comes with one additional slot for secondary abilities, which may be increased to a maximum of three slots with aSuper Sea Snail or 30,000 cash for each slot. Sinceit is made by theSkalopgear brand, it has a higher chance of rollingQuick Respawn and a lower chance of rollingSpecial Saver to fill its secondary ability slot.

The star level may be increased withSuper Sea Snails for 1 (first), 1 (second), 5 (third), 10 (fourth), or 20 (fifth) Super Sea Snails per star, or by purchasing additional copies of it from Naut Couture for 10,000 (first), 30,000 (second), 50,000 (third), 100,000 (fourth), or 200,000 (fifth) Cash per star. Increasing the star level to 1 or 2 stars will add a secondary ability slot per level, up to a maximum of three slots. Increasing the star level beyond 2 stars will increase the gear experience gained by a cumulative 3.333…% up to 10% additional experience at 5-star level. Sinceit is made by theSkalopgear brand, it has a higher chance of rollingQuick Respawn and a lower chance of rollingSpecial Saver to fill its secondary ability slots.

- The symbol on the cap resembles the Japanese character う (as in うに, or "sea urchin") written backwards.
- The default color scheme of the Urchins Cap (shown in the equipment icon) is similar toan alternate cap worn by theSeattle Mariners, a baseball team formerly owned by Nintendo of America. Their name also connects to the aquatic themes ofSplatoon.
- The Urchins Cap was originally called "Baseball Cap", was primarily navy blue instead of black, and hadDamage Up as its primaryability.
