Layout

Overhead view of Undertow Spillway.

Undertow Spillway is an abandoned underground flood bypass inSplatsville that was renovated into aTurf War stage. The spawn area features a wide area of turf that goes far to the right. The first drop is accessible to the other team via an uninkable ramp and goes also as far as the spawn area. The drop after that is an open area and to the left allows access to a raised area and an uninkable raised area. To the right of the open area is a small drop to another open area. The middle is two open areas separated by a wall in the middle.

Ranked Battle terrain

InRanked Battles, specifications for the terrain or placement of objects are different between themodes; these changes create new paths or new objects to take cover behind.

Splat Zones

There are two Splat Zones, both located underneath the glass areas. An uninkable ramp is added to allow access to the opposing team's base.

Tower Control

The Tower starts in the middle of the stage, replacing thebumper normally there. When advancing, the Tower goes left then straight, closer to the opposing team's side. It then goes right and continues going until it reaches the goal. The large glass areas in the middle are removed and a ramp is added in the middle of the opposing team's base.

InSplatoon 3, checkpoints have been added:
CheckpointLocationTimer (Seconds)Progress amount

1The first checkpoint is just before it turns left, right next to the starting position.5968610
2The second checkpoint is in the middle of the upper left area.6594712
3The third checkpoint is located in the upper middle area.6241212

Rainmaker

TheRainmaker is located in the middle of the stage, replacing the bumper normally there. The checkpoints are located in the open area to the right, and to the far left on the opponent's raised area. A ramp is added to the far left to allow access to the checkpoint. The pedestal is located on the first drop. The right of the spawn areas has been altered slightly, having an uninkable path being the only way to get to the pedestal. An Inkrail is added to the far right of the spawn.

Clam Blitz

The Clam basket is located to the left of the spawn, two drops down. An uninkable ramp has been added just behind the basket to help access the platform behind it.

Undertow Spillway underwent a major renovation inversion 7.2.0.

Changes include:

  • A small amount of the left spawn area has been extended.
  • A ramp was added in the perch area. The sponge and the cover to the right of that area has been extended upward.

Splatfests

Undertow Spillway was available in the followingSplatfests as aTricolor Turf War stage inSplatoon 3:

Big Run

Undertow Spillway is where the thirdBig Run took place. Its layout adds many inkable blocks, plus tengushers which theSalmonids use to enter the stage. Six Gushers are active at low tide, three at medium tide, and two at high tide. As usual, there are three tides; low tide takes place in the middle of the stage with the Egg Basket placed on the sloped ledge in the center, medium tide sets players on the raised area just outside of Team Alpha's spawn, and high tide sets players in the spawn area with the majority of the stage flooded. For this Big Run only, the Egg Basket's hitbox is expanded downward due to its placement on raised platforms across all tides. The onlyKnown Occurrences that can occur on this stage areFog,The Mothership, andRush.

Trivia

  • This is the first stage to have different names between both Spanish localizations. Both French localizations have used different names for certain stages since the launch ofSplatoon, while both English localizations ofSplatoon used the same stage names before all regions started using one localization fromSplatoon 2 onward.
  • The stage was the first stage introduced inSplatoon 3 to be used inTricolor Turf War.
    • It is also the first stage to be used in both Tricolor Turf War andBig Run.
  • This stage strongly resembles Tokyo'sMetropolitan Area Outer Underground Discharge Channel, the main chamber of which is often referred to as an "underground temple" or "floodwater cathedral", hence the internal stage name of "Temple".
  • During Big Run, as the players get launched onto the stage, an alarm-like sound can be heard.
    • Additionally, theGrizzco helicopter stays immobile the entire time, unlike in other stages.
  • This was the first Big Run stage to take place indoors. It is also the only Salmon Run stage in anySplatoon game where the time of day does not change to night during aKnown Occurrence; instead, the lights on the ceiling dim.
