Sheldon is acharacter in theSplatoon series. He is ahorseshoe crab who is the third-generation owner ofAmmo Knights,[1] aweapons shop inInkopolis andSplatsville that appears in all three games of the series.
Appearance
Sheldon is short with a comparatively large head, has brown eyes, and hasbuck teeth. Sheldon's shell mimics a soldier helmet, and he is shown to be able retract his body into this shell at will, similar to a turtle. He wears a khaki military jacket and brown boots, as well as a red scarf and a red belt. He also has brass binocular-like goggles that he uses as glasses.
InSplatoon 2, markings can be seen on Sheldon's shell. His goggles have become orange, and he now wears a pair of brown leather gloves. He also wears an apron with three diamond-shaped badges, as well as aSplattershot patch which, according toThe Art of Splatoon 2, was crafted byAnnie.
InSplatoon 3, Sheldon's binoculars are now yellow-green with a similarly colored metal chain, which is also attached to his vest. Notably, his gloves from the previous game are absent, as well as his boots, which are now plain brown loafers with white socks. His scarf appears to be different as well, now without a yellow knot that the previous designs had. His shirt is now a slightly deeper gray color and has rolled up long sleeves. He also now wears dark gray shorts instead of the pants he previously wore. Stickers are also now present on the left side of his shell.
Sheldon's designs in the first two games seem to be inspired by theBoy Scouts of America, as seen in the khaki shirt and neckerchief of his design inSplatoon, and the diamond arrangement of badges inSplatoon 2, which have the same colors and arrangement as those of a Cub Scout.[2]
Personality and traits
Sheldon is a military fanatic from a well-respected family. He has developed extreme nearsightedness due to staying up late every night, tinkering withweapons and small parts. He wanted to become a soldier as a child, but could not enter due to his poor eyesight. InSplatoon 2, he seems to have improved his skills in creating weapons as he is now able to create new versions of theHero weapons as well as upgrade them with amachine he made as well. When theHero Replicas are available to be purchased, instead of saying he could not replicate the technology like in the first game, he says that the weapon could not be mass-produced by "the guys at the factory".
Sheldon has a great love of weapons, and if the player has unlocked any newweapons, he enthusiastically explains them in great detail. Sheldon is also the director of the Turf Wars association, however a time limit has been put in place for speeches due to how long his speeches took during assemblies. Although Sheldon's verbosity might seem off-putting,Agent 8 finds his speeches to be calming, andShiver values the advice he has to give on weaponry.Shelly and Donny, who are Sheldon's successors in Inkopolis inSplatoon 3, are also said to look up to him.
Sheldon's favorite weapon class appears to bebrushes, as suggested by hisPalette inSide Order.

Major appearances
In Chapter 46, Sheldon appears inAmmo Knights inInkopolis Square, givingSpecs his repairedOctobrush. A few moments later, he nominates himself as a judge for theTurf War againstTeam Blue andTeam Glasses atSnapper Canal. In the nature of his attention to detail, he explains the history ofSnapper Canal, in which Team Blue has no interest in. He notices Team Blue's strength on the field, specificallyGoggles, and later asks Goggles to help him uncover the mysterious treasure thathis grandfather left behind.
Having recruited Goggles, Sheldon states that some of the weapons that are used in Turf Wars today were made onMount Nantai, such as theHero Shot,Dynamo Roller, andAerospray. The treasure eventually turns out to be aweapon that resembles theSplattershot but is far more powerful. There is also a note inside, and Sheldon is moved to tears reading it. He insists that he will use the weapon for research and not for Turf Wars.
Minor appearances
Sheldon debuts with a brief appearance in Volume 1. He is seen frustrated at Team Blue's silliness when Goggles steals weapons from his shop and wears them. Sheldon later reappears in Volume 12, where he is seen drivingMarie's truck inOcto Canyon. Sheldon also introduces two new agents, Agent 4.5 and Agent 4.25, who are revealed asSkull andVintage.
In the bonus chapter of Volume 12,Grandpappy's Note, Sheldon knocks over a stack of boxes in Ammo Knights and finds a note from his grandfather. He decides that he wants to go and look for it, and starts to think about who he should take along. He eventually decides on Goggles and leads into where Chapter 46 left off.
