Description
Shark Bytes is an electro house-inspired track fromOcto Expansion. It opens withMarina singing alone over electronic beats.Pearl shortly replaces her with rapping afterwards, followed by Marina repeating her verse over Pearl's rapping. Pearl's rapping stops as Marina transitions into the chorus, at which point the music intensifies, mostly featuring Marina with some rapping by Pearl. After this, the song loops.
InSplatoon 3, the song can be heard in thejukebox as ofversion 7.0.0 if theSplatoon 3: Expansion Pass has been downloaded.
Lyrics
The booklet included withOctotune gives the official lyrics forShark Bytes. The lyrics are nonsensical; the Japanesehiragana andkatakana simply give the pronunciation. According to a Famitsu interview,[1] the former is used to indicatePearl's lyrics inInkling language, whereas the latter is used to indicateMarina's lyrics in Octarian language.

Samples and interpolations
The Plan
- Main article:The Plan
At one point,The Plan interpolates Marina's singing fromShark Bytes in the form of some background note melodies.
Other versions
Shark Bytes (Live)
Duringlive concerts starring onlyOff the Hook, an extended version ofShark Bytes is used. Although each performance is different due to the live bands, they retain the same strong structure. The intro is greatly extended to allow for Off the Hook to have a "costume change" and return on-stage. In the second loop of the song, Pearl's rap before the chorus is removed, and there is a new guitar-heavy instrumental after the second chorus, continuing with the end of the verse and another chorus. The song is also given a definitive ending with an instrumental based on the intro.
Splatocalypse (Final Splatfest Trailer)
In theChaos vs. Order trailer,[3] a shorter, more dramatic version with no vocals or electronic sounds is used, based onMarina's repeating vocals. This theme also incorporates motifs fromCalamari Inkantation,Muck Warfare, andEbb & Flow.
Shark Bytes (Final Fest)
This version was heard as aSplatfest battle theme during the first day ofChaos vs. Order inSplatoon 2. It remains mostly the same, but most of the intro is removed, the break before the loop is longer, and it is sped up by 6.061% (from 132 to 140 BPM).
Shark Bytes (Grand Festival)
Another version ofShark Bytes appeared as battle music in thePast vs. Present vs. Future Splatfest inSplatoon 3 from the second day onwards. It is very similar to the Final Fest version fromSplatoon 2, but with new mixing and the extended break removed.
Etymology
Shark Bytes is a pun on "shark bites" and "bytes", possibly referencing the song's electronic style or the retro style of theOcto Expansion in general.
