The band was formed byKiki ofC-Side, recruiting their friends to pursue a musical style more complex and showy than C-Side's while retaining the same level of heaviness and impulsiveness. Kiki

Main article:Kiki

Kiki is the band's guitarist, as well asC-Side's guitarist. They started Riot Act as a side project. While they are a member of two bands, they claim they can make it work in their own way. For "No Plan Survives", they invitedFinn Feeder of the Bottom Feeders, whoBaker from C-Side previously said he wanted to work with, as if they were trying to get one step ahead of him. This led to a fight breaking out betweenC-Side and Riot Act fans, which Kiki was unaware of due to being on a snowboarding trip.[1]

Yakko

Yakko, ayellow longnose butterflyfish, is the band's drummer. They are the oldest member of the band. They are popular for their drumming, despite their thin build. They dislike cleaning up and transporting their drums, saying they think about quitting every time they do it. Their unique fashion sense is popular, with their stylings being featured in magazines. A year prior to the release ofBancalaWalker, they announced on Ikastagram that they married an actress who is a tigerstriped catfish.Sid from the Chirpy Chips has attempted to befriend them through DMs, but has never received a response.[1]

Nia

Nia, apiranha, is the band's vocalist. They grew up surrounded by music, as their mother is a famous singer and their father is a guitarist. In high school, they bit their homeroom teacher, causing them to be kicked out of their home. After that, they started playing in a band while earning a living by working part-time. While attending their favorite bar, they were enlisted by Kiki to join Riot Act.[1]

Yanagi

Yanagi, aJapanese sea nettle, is the band's bassist. They were working in a music studio when they were recruited by Kiki. They often handle administrative work due to their bandmates' free-spirited personalities. They were once bitten by a drunken Nia, and proceeded to beat them half to death.[1]

Etymology

The band's name is derived from the name of the historicalRiot Act, which has passed into common parlance as part of the idiomatic phrase "reading [someone] the riot act" (meaning to sternly warn someone). It is also a play on the word "act" as used to refer to musical performers.

Yakko's name comes from フエヤッコダイfueyakkodai, the Japanese name for theyellow longnose butterflyfish.

Nia's name is derived from ピラニアpirania, the Japanese word forpiranhas.

Yanagi's name originates from ヤナギクラゲyanagi kurage, the Japanese name for the species of jellyfish known in English aschrysaora helvola, of which Yanagi's species, theJapanese sea nettle, shares the same genus.

Names in other languages

The name of the band is the same as English in all languages except for Japanese. The band is called their Japanese name in European trailers.
