Rainbow Color Inkantation is a song performed by theNow or Never Seven. It is amegamix of the songsCalamari Inkantation,Color Pulse, andAnarchy Rainbow.
Description
Rainbow Color Inkantation was first teased in the reveal trailer for theGrand Festival[1] and was available during the last 24 hours of theSplatfest. This track was one of the songs that could play during Splatfest battles and was the only song featured in theTricolor Turf War stageGrand Splatlands Bowl, where it also continued into the final minute, replacingNow or Never!.
The song begins with theSquid Sisters singing the opening lines ofCalamari Inkantation, followed byMarina singing the opening lines ofColor Pulse, thenDeep Cut singing their third and fourth lines from the intro ofCalamari Inkantation 3MIX. At 0:53, audio of the Squid Sisters' catchphrase, "Staaaay fresh!" plays. At 1:18, a break similar to the one that plays right before the loop inBig Betrayal occurs, followed by audio ofOff the Hook's catchphrase, "Don't get cooked... Stay off the hook!" Right before the 2-minute mark, audio ofDeep Cut's catchphrase, "Catch ya later!" plays. In regularSplatfest battles, Deep Cut's catchphrase gets cut off by one of the idol groups'Now or Never! versions starting.
If one of the attacking teams in aTricolor Battle has secured the secondUltra Signal on the Grand Splatlands Bowl, the last minute of the track is replaced by a section sung by the respective team's idol group: a version ofCity of Color for Team Past, a version ofEbb & Flow that also features the melody fromSpectrum Obligato for Team Present, and an original part with three distinct sections, which starts with traditional Japanese-styledHayashi chants and ends with Japanese baseball cheers, sung by Deep Cut for Team Future. If the second Ultra Signal is secured during the last minute of the match, the track dynamically switches to that team's version. If neither of the attacking teams has secured the second Ultra Signal, the last minute is replaced by a unique instrumental section that is based on the backing track ofCalamari Inkantation. It also features an arrangement of the chorus ofAnarchy Rainbow, as well as samples fromMuck Warfare,Off the Hook's version ofNow or Never!,Acid Hues, andColor Pulse. Each of the last-minute variations features the same ending portion, an instrumental based on the ending ofNow or Never!.
When listened to in thejukebox, only the instrumental last-minute version is used. During broadcasts of Nintendo-hostedSplatoon 3 tournaments, such as theSplatoon 3 Gachi King Championship and theSplatoon 3 North American League, a version of the song that includes new transitions between the neutral version, the Squid Sisters version, the Off the Hook version, and finally the Deep Cut version, is occasionally played between matches or on the "starting soon" screens.[2] This version would later be featured inOrdertune.

Trivia
- The song used for each group's last-minute version might reference their team choices in the Grand Festival.
- The Squid Sisters might reference Team Past by singing an arrangement ofCity of Color, which was both their first song in-universe and their first song to be revealed (heard in theSplatoon Direct upon the reveal of the Squid Sisters).
- Off the Hook might reference Team Present by singing an arrangement ofSpectrum Obligato ~ Ebb & Flow (Out of Order), one of their latest songs at the time of the Grand Festival.
- Deep Cut might reference Team Future by singing a never before heard song.
- The third section of Team Future's last minute theme includes lyrics that can be heard as "ハイカラビビってる" (haikara bibi teru), which translates to "Inkopolis is scared", which references "ピッチャービビってる" (pitchā bibi teru), which translates to "the (enemy) pitcher is scared", a common chant in Japanese baseball cheers.[4]
Etymology
The song's name appears to be made up of one word from the titles of each of the songs that it mixes: "Rainbow" fromAnarchy Rainbow, "Color" fromColor Pulse, and "Inkantation" fromCalamari Inkantation. Additionally, the "Rainbow Color" in the name might refer to the variety of colors that are featured inPast vs. Present vs. Future, such as from the showers in theGrand Festival Grounds.
