Description

Octosnipers are much taller than most other Octarians. They are stationed on immobile platforms from which they blow shots of ink through instruments that appear similar to a lengthened megaphone. They wear a set of goggles with a laser sight protruding from their left eye. The green laser that comes from the sight reveals where they are looking, and the laser turns red when they spot the player or another suspicious object. Like many Octarians, they also appear to possess short, stubby legs.

Gameplay

Octosnipers are completely immobile unless on a moving platform. They are traditionally situated in higher locations to get a better shot at the player. When an Octosniper spots a player, they will focus their laser sight on the player, charge, and fire a blast similar to that of a fully charged shot from a weapon in thecharger category. This creates a trail of ink.

Tactics

• Because the Octosniper's beam can be very dangerous (especially inOcto Canyon or theOcto Expansion, in which they can destroy your armor in one hit), it's best to stay out of the way just as they're about to attack. Be especially careful if there's more than one, or if it's sheilded by anOctodisco.
  • However, they won't notice you if you're submerged inInk, so you can take the opprotunity to sneak up on them in Swim form. Unfortunately, they will still notice you if you swim too fast (unless inReturn of the Mammalians, in which you've unlocked Ninja Squid).
• Because Octosnipers can be distracted by mostSub Weapons, they might not notice as you sneak up on them. They'll also try and target other things (such as flying ink pellets), but they'll prioritize you if you're in their line of sight.
• When you're right next to an Octosniper, their beam will be too high to reach you. At this point, it's very easy to defeat them.
• Should the Octosniper spot you, try hiding behind aCrate or a wall (but be careful, as crates can be destroyed easily).

• Keep in mind that this section can also be somewhat the case if you're dealing withOctocommanders, as the two enemies are quite similar in function.

Tips

• InOcto Valley, it takes two shots for an Octosniper tosplat the player or break theirarmor. InOcto Canyon, theOcto Expansion, andReturn of the Mammalians, however, it takes only one shot from an Octosniper to break the player's armor or splat them.
• In Octo Valley, Octosnipers can be distracted by usingSplat Bombs,Burst Bombs, orSeekers; the Octosniper will aim at thesub weapon but will not open fire. In Octo Canyon, theOcto Expansion, and Return of the Mammalians, Octosnipers will aim and fire at any airborneink pellets orsub weapons they see but will prioritize firing at the player if they see them too.
